One difference we see in Scrooge after Past takes him back to his childhood is that he isn't so confined. He tells Past of how his chilhood was and he talks about his sister. He talks about himself in third person. When he sees himself alone he thinks back to the kid who was singing in his window and said he should like to give him something. These things that Scrooge says is a big difference in himself. He was trapped in his own shadow but once he saw his past he changes, he is able to talk about himself and talk about the people he knew.

Once the Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge into his own Christmases passed Scrooge does seem to change. His attitude and words differ from what they usually would be. When they first arrive, Scrooge is struck at the sight of his old home place and at the sight of carolers he exclaims, "Listen! I know these men! I know them! I remember the beauty of their song!" Usually, Scrooge is against everything happy but here, in his past, he rejoices in the sweet songs of Christmas. It is even more ironic because earlier on he shoos a young boy caroling away.

But in the present, he acts as if he didn't do anything to affect his life in the present. I see this because on page 31 and 32, the Ghost of the Past says, "A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still."
This is explains to me that he regrets not making more friends, which may have affected his personality, making him more unthoughtful, or "Scroogey".
