The African Elephant stands 11 ft tall and weighs up to 13,000 lbs. They use their long truck to eat the foliage from trees and may consume up to almost a half ton of vegetation per day. African elephants are highly intelligent and exhibit a wide variety of behaviors including grief, mimicry, humor, and compassion. They are endangered because of loss of habitat and poaching for their ivory tusks.
