Sumer was made up of independent city-states, including Ur, Uruk, Lagash, and Nippur. City states bartered for goods they needed. That means they traded goods for other goods. They also often used the rivers to transport goods quickly. The Sumer culture followed a polytheistic religion, which means they worshipped multiple gods. Sumerians used a form of writing called cuniform, which are shapes made of triangles. It was initially used to keep records, but evolved into other forms of writing.
