-Barriers/ Challenges: Parents not bringing equipment to the assessment e.g. hearing aids, walkers, glasses.
- Not enough time to prepare for an assessment e.g. reading case history/ knowing about the student before they entered the room.
- Not having what was promised, e.g. toys in each area, areas of the assessment that would be completed by admin.
- Not enough time to modify standardised assessments i.e. language assessments for visual impairments.
- Assessment tool kits were not provided.
- Parent questionnaire was too long and made many angry- questions not tailored to the student e.g. questions about birth being asked to those in 6th form.
- Staff not having access to the relevant documentations.
- Presence of WCT during the assessments??
- Difficult to observe natural play and social interaction- unnatural setting.
- Obtaining information about what equipment the student has in class- difficult to obtain class teacher information.
- Missed opportunity to observe students during summer scheme and during partial reopening.
- Would have been great at the start of lockdown.
- 2 hrs with the 3 disciplines

- What went well:
- Working as a team- good experience to work in an MDT way.
- Observing parents and students interacting together.
- Getting to meet staff across disciplines that are not in our current zones
- Learning skills from other members of the team
- In depth assessment for 3 hours v.s. shorter periods within the school setting.
- Able to see what parents are doing at home and what techniques work well for them
- Students were supported by someone who knew them well- parents.
- Parents were able to see how we work as a team and who the therapists are on their team.
-

- What do we need to do next:
- Complete the reports
- Do not edit reports once complete.
- Continue with MDT Reports for new starters as they enter the school
-
What do we need to know more about?
- Educational Psychology input
- Adapting assessments for visually impaired
-

Challenges :
the questionnaire was too long
teams have changed post assessment - due to bubbles so parents think they are having one MDT team but now they have changed.
no access to appropriate assessment tools
the admin/background information not updated
Not knowing the child before the assessment.
not having enough time to write the report

What went well:
MDT working together - built good teams
Meeting the parents -
for new pupils it was useful to see them before they started
Now having baseline assessment for all the children is really useful - especially being in a zone with children I haven't met
Being able to discuss short term targets with the parents when we don't have updated EHCP's

Even better if:
Admin section was filled out prior to assessment
Not having seen all the children - only around half were done.
Smaller parent questionnaire - completed before the assessment!!
More time to complete the assessment and especially the report
More organised time table

What do we need to know more of ????????????
- Specialised/standardised assessments
- Outcome measures (
- SMART Goal setting
- Knowledge about UL / LL (ROM, management,
- Equipment - Adjusting, assessing,
- Assessment of VI / Adapting the assessment for VI
-
-
