We asked many people about this important part of our history this included Joseph Plumb Martin. Joseph Plumb Martin is a 15 year-old boy from Connecticut. He signed up to help the Americans and he stayed with the army until the war ended. Joseph told us "We had lived together as a family of brothers for several years, And now were to be separated." Joseph missed the "family" that he formed over the years, but is glad they got there independence because he states “I hope I shall one day find land enough to lay my bones in.” Now that they are no longer with the British they have more freedom to live where they want
