3/10 . I think as a parent would love to be more involved if I can get updates like a month in advance about what is my child expected to learn. This could be followed up by some sort of feedback on how he performed in that area after the month.

The FLGs are good but I feel the suggestion that came for my first grade kid were nowhere to match his level of learning. where as I am very happy with the work done with my 4th grader's teacher in the same area

I believe we have work to do in involving parents in their students education and growth year around. Would love to have transparency/access to student data.

I feel like there is lot to do here for kids. Just like how it was for me during my MBA. Its good that they have the freedom to choose but sometimes having clear expectations and knowing that they need to do better in certain area might be needed

5/10: I love the BCS mission statement and believe the curriculum has been built to serve the mission statement. At the day-to-day learning level, I hope there will be a published syllabus periodically and results shared with parents on a more frequent basis (for instance a similar format to Khan Academy, which provides progress and results for each learning modules). Also we should look at the effectiveness of the current report cards for lower grade and the FLG meetings. It will be nice to have a more data-driven (test results or evidence-based) approach.

BCS has a great clear longterm lifelong mission. Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the smaller details: As a parent, I liked the "Long Term First Grade Plan" that was submitted as part of the evidence for B.1.a. It is true that not all learners learn at the same pace, but would a document like that be available for each grade and accessible to parents? It would be easier to look back on a grade to see how each grade is connected and built upon the next year (in an Executive Summary type of way).

I don't think the problem is the vision or mission. The challenge is the execution of the vision and mission. Need to find effective way to get parents involved while not adding more work to the teachers. Examples are: create an error-tracking process, have kids take notes for the mistakes they made or effectively use a planner so kids understand what the expectations are each week, each day.

Just like BCS does a great job of connecting subjects across a grade, if there was a way of having a vertical across grades where we build up on a life skill they learnt in the previous years that would be great. We love the new vibe and energy each grade teacher brings as they experiment new ways of teaching but if there is a little bit of consistency across grades in some key life skill related areas i think that would help it stick.
