One effect of this journey was an extremely important trade route discovery. This was great because it decreased costs and increased speed. Another effect that natives of Africa were extremely hostile. This was important because they knew if they ever wanted to explore Africa they would have to be careful. A very important effect that came from this exploration was the new knowledge of Africa. This helped them learn more about the world geography.

At this point of our journey, the crew was physically and mentally exhausted from the difficult voyage. After 7 long months at sea, our provisions were running low. Food was limited to salted meats, fish, beans and stale bread. We drank mostly wine, as the water which we kept in barrels had become foul. Living conditions were cramped and uncomfortable

https://bartolomeudiascarolannsydney.weebly.com/primary-source.html
This quote is important because it shows how draining the journey really was . They talk about them resorting to drinking wine because there water was spoiled and this really shows how desperate they were.

I wanted to continue on and survey the coastline, but the crew would only agree to give me a few more days to explore before we began our return home."https://bartolomeudiascarolannsydney.weebly.com/primary-source.html

This is important because it shows that even though they were not prepared or equipped to attempted to go longer Dias is so determined he wants to push on.

Dias and his crew made a very important discovery about a trade route to india that goes around the southernmost tip of africa. Before they had to slowly travel across land and was extremely expensive. This new route increased speed and decreased price.

While searching for this new route on the way back he also discover the southern tip of africa. He named this Cabo das tormentas for the storms that blew him off course. This place later became named cabo das agulhas or cape of needles.

Colonization can have many effects that are both positive and negative. One positive effect is the spread of culture and Christianity. This means people will have more choices to believe/do what they want. Although there are some positive effects, there are also some negative ones like war. It will often lead to war because the natives don't want to give their land up and the people trying to colonize didn’t sail across the world not to get more land. One example is the American indian wars. Another effect is the spread of diseases such as the bubonic plague. This is obviously negative because the natives aren't immune to the diseases the explorers are bring with them and this will lead to many people dead
