school, but our community, our state, and ultimately our nation. We move towards giving our
students a voice in a system that should be preparing them for their futures, and who better to
have a voice in that system then the ones who are most affected by it. By giving the students a
direct voice into their own education we also give the student agency, which brings with it a
bigger investment on their part. When the student makes that investment it’s natural that an
outcome would be that the student becomes more concerned with the success of the school as
well as their personal success, thus creating an intrinsic motivation for learning, which in turn
overcomes one of the biggest obstacles facing educators today: seeking to motivate students to
care about their own education. By helping to eliminate this basic obstacle, teachers and
students are freed to pursue avenues of meaningful relationship building and educational
opportunity. For this reason, among others, I feel that redesign is a worthy endeavor and one
that will make the lives of our students richer, creating both better educated community
