Each NAF Academy student is required to complete at least 2 or more classes within their planned pathway, and over 6 work-based learning events per year. NAF has deemed 18 more career academy events before graduation as successful. Over a two-year period of participating in a NAF Academy are DCPS NAF students prepared to successfully matriculate into a career pathway or post-secondary education?

They also acknowledge that the Millennial is a key element to their company’s success. By 2020, Millennials will make up 50 percent of the global workforce. As a result, employers must understand and acknowledge the needs of the Millennials  in the workplace and how they can provide them with professional development opportunities to ensure they are equipped with the leadership skills necessary to advance their careers.

As a nation, we depend on the next generation for economic growth. Before the pandemic, many jobs were left vacant due to a lack of post-secondary qualifications of workers. As a result, our students are leaving school ill-equipped for a trajectory towards career success. There is a need for high-engagement educational models and proper counseling for all DC Public School Career Academy.

They are schools within schools that link students with peers, teachers, and community partners in a structured environment that fosters academic success. The career academy concept has three key elements:
  • A small learning community (SLC)
  • A college-prep sequential curriculum with a career theme
  • An advisory board that forges partnerships with employers, higher education institutions, and the community 
Post-secondary- degree in any kind of educational degree that a person can attain when attending a tertiary educational institution, whether it's a community college, a vocational/technical school, an undergraduate college, or a university. 

Career and technical education -is a term applied to schools, institutions, and educational programs that specialize in the skilled trades, applied sciences, modern technologies, and career preparation. It was formerly (and is still commonly) called vocational education; however, the term has fallen out of favor with most educators.

Inner City- the area near the center of a city, especially when associated with social and economic problems.

 Career Pathway is a coordinated program of rigorous, high-quality education and work-related training that aligns to industry needs and advances students in their career of choice. A career pathway is seamless and includes multiple possibilities leading to an industry-recognized credential, certificate or licensure, and/or an associate or baccalaureate degree and beyond.
