Mouth/Salivary Glands- the salivary glands are located in the mouth and produce saliva to help with mechanical breakdown. Amylase breaks down carbohydrates during chemical digestion. All of these functions are used during ingestion. During ingestion, you ingest a bolus that gets broken down and digested through the body and eventually out of the body.

Epiglottis- Flap of tissue that sits beneath the tongue at the back of the throat. Its main function is to close over the windpipe (trachea) while you're eating to prevent food from entering your airway and stop choking

Esophagus- The primary function of the Esophagus is to transport food entering the mouth through the throat and into the stomach. Mucus can be triggered by illness which can lead to the throat being sensitive to stomach acid. but Peristalsis helps food move down the throat using a series of wave-like muscle contractions that move food through the digestive tract. Acid reflux occurs when the sphincter muscle at the lower end of your esophagus relaxes at the wrong time, allowing stomach acid to back up into your esophagus. This can cause heartburn.

Stomach- The stomach uses HCl to break down and digest the food in the stomach, creating chyme. The HCl also denatures proteins which get digested by pepsin.

Small Intestine- The small intestine breaks down food, mostly things that cannot be digested by the stomach like lipids using chemical digestion. Using villi that line the inside of the small intestine, the process of absorption occurs to get necessary nutrients into the organ.

Large Intestine- The function is to absorb water and other salts/vitamins from undigested food. It is also responsible for egestion and the composition of feces/shipment to the rectum.

Gallbladder- It is responsible for storing bile which is produced by the liver to emulsify lipids.

Pancreas- The pancreas produces enzymes needed to break down certain foods and because it uses enzymes it is a form of chemical digestion. Another job of the pancreas is insulin creation which is necessary for sugar storage.
