I wanted to start playing a sport and I was frustrated that I could not pick up anything. One day my brothers took me outside. They told me to pick up a baseball glove and try to catch it. I held the glove open and the baseball landed right in my glove. My brother threw another one at me, and it hit me right in my nose. After a few tears to my mom, I went back outside and told my brother I was ready for some more. After a few attempts, I was able to throw the baseball! Being able to get outside and throw the baseball was the starting point for my love of softball and also began the learning process of baseball/ softball.

Working out and watching what I eat is an imperative part of my life. I grew up in an active family and we always talk about the disparity of workouts that we partake in each and every day. During high school, I started to take my workouts seriously. I quickly realized there was a huge problem that I was committing . After my workout, I would get home and gorge in junk food . I realized I would not keep track of my food intake or what different workouts I was doing while at the gym. This made me take a step back and make some different goals that I would follow. One goal was to keep track of my workouts. This has helped tremendously since now I can look back and see how much I have improved.

In school, usually after I finish a group project, my teachers usually have me complete a writing assignment that requires me to reflect on the group project. When I was in my senior year, I had to do a big group project. Afterwards, my teacher gave us an assignment to reflect on what we could do better when doing a group project. I was able to reflect on my weaknesses and my strengths. When I was done writing them down I had to share with my group and they were able to put in their input. This experience allowed me to improve in my speaking skills, presentation skills, and power point skills.

During my senior year, I was taking AP Government. This class was a little different since every homework/quiz/ test we had was a group assignment. Each time we met in class, I would work with my "group" on the assigned homework. If we struggled with a problem, we were able to talk about it, resulting in a well, thought-out answer. I never had a class like my AP Government class. I know this group method worked for me since I made a high score on the AP test.

When I was in my physics 1 class, I struggled and made extremely low grades on all the tests. I could not understand why I was failing. I always considered myself an A student and to see a F written on my tests crushed me. I went through the whole year going to tutors and was still barely passing. In my senior year, I was placed in the physics II class. I was not looking forward to it at all. On the first day, all the students and I were sitting quietly in our desks. The teacher came in the room and and started to set up in an experiment. He then stood on the table and we watched him conduct an experiment. Everyday, instead of just giving us formulas, he would conduct experiments and then teach from that. He would use real-world examples that every student could relate to. By the end of the year, I didn't want to leave the class. I fell in love with physics and how intriguing it is.

Math was always my worst subject growing up. I despised it and thought it was the worst thing ever created. I hated how my teachers taught it, and would skip my math classes anytime I could. In college, I was forced to take a math class. I was not looking forward to it at all. I was used to my teachers just giving me a formula and not showing me how to do it. When I walked in to my college math class, I saw my professor and he started explaining different math skills to us. He was writing on the board and drawing arrows, squares, and a multitude of "math things". I kept listening and never skipped a class. Just from observing him work out the math problems, I was able to make exceptional grades on my homework, tests, and exams.

When I was taking Human Anatomy my senior year of High School, I did not grasp the new concepts as easily as the other students. When the first test was approaching, I was filled with fear that I would fail miserably. Thankfully, three days before the test, my teacher split the class in half and told us that we would be playing "Jeopardy Human Anatomy style". She went to the front, my team named ourselves and we lined up. The teacher then proceeded to go down the line and ask each student a question about the system we were learning about. If the particular student didn't know the answer, they were allowed to get help from their team. All of the questions she asked were also going to be on the test. When the test day came, I looked at all the questions and knew all of the answers and passed with a 100.

In my English class I wrote a multitude of papers about various topics. By the end of the year, my writing improved drastically just from writing so much. For our last assignment, my professor told us to read all of past writing assignments and explain how we improved over the semester. I thought this would be an easy assignment, but I as soon as I sat down I quickly stumped. It took me awhile to answer the question "How I improved". I then thought about the different methods I did and how those particular methods improved over the semester. Being able to reflect on how my writing improved let me improve my writing skills even more.

In high school I did not know how to study. It was an embarrassing thought, and I thought I was the only one who experienced this. I started looking up a multitude of videos that gave advice on how to study. I finally knew different techniques and was determined to put them to the tests. Next time I took notes, I wrote my own test based on my tests. I would write out questions that said "why is this important", "how is this . I important", and "what can you learn from this". I began to see improvement in my tests scores, leading me to make a goal to use this study method each time an exam or test was coming up.

In my computer class I had to design a website. I had no idea on where to start. I felt overwhelmed and thought it was too hard to even start on. When I began the website, I had analyze various items and make decisions on what I believed looked the best. Once I started working on the project I was able to understand the website building process. Through this experience, I gained valuable experience and understood how to work with technology. My writing skills improved, along with my ability to make decisions and plan things out.

When I was playing tennis in high school, my coach created a unique assignment for us to improve in our tennis skills. She wanted us to do peer-based evaluations. She put us into groups of three. Our instructions were to just hit with them and give feedback on how we can improve. One member got on the sidelines of the court and would observe how the two players would hit. Afterwards, the member would critique us. We would switch out until we did a full rotation. This experience led me to improve me in my tennis skills and now anytime I play tennis I do peer-based evaluations. The picture below is the group I was put in.
