The Holocaust confirms my understanding of genocide. The Nazis purposely targeted the Jewish population, trying to destroy them through mass killings, concentration camps, forced labor, and persecution. They also tried to erase Jewish culture by destroying communities and banning traditions.

Learning about the Holocaust and other genocides (Tutsi in Rwanda, Darfur/Sudan, etc) has taught me what experiences during genocide can be like but also solidifies that I can't possibly understand something like that because I haven't experienced it

Not really a misconception but I didn't realize that "planned" was part of the definition of genocide. I also didn't consider that causing groups to have difficulty procreating would be part of the genocidal plan. I thought it was more of a byproduct than an initial goal

I didn't realized that it was majorly altering their lifestyle, not just killing. When I hear/read "cide," I think of killing, but it could be killling their beliefs or ways of life as opposed to literally killing someone.

Some students want to make jokes; some are ignorant and unwilling to learn about this topic. How do you connect them to the topic and have them want to learn more? Potentially we answer this through the power of story- can lead students to make a connection and care about this person.

Empathy building can also help with this and finding stories with relatability to students. While their experiences are different, some of their emotions may be the same.

Educators during the Holocaust- what pressures were on them? What influences did they have? What choices did they have to make? How does this connect to us today?

Why have we not learned from the past. Since 1945 there are countless genocides. There is a general frustration.

More questions about Raphael Lampkin and the history around who he was and what he did.

Would love a resource about Native communities in different areas of Kentucky.

Why has it taken so long to learn the stories of Indigenous peoples from Kentucky? Why isn't it a part of our standards?

We recognize the intentional results of curriculum choices in Kentucky. (positive and negative)
