However, he also knows it is not Lennie's fault. We can tell that Lennie desperately wants the praise and validation of George, likely due to the lack of it he gets from his father. Okonkwo is harsh and has too much pride to show when he is vulnerable. Like Lennie, he wishes people to look up to him with adoration and praise. I think that he thinks because his father was an extremely laid-back guy, he has to be an extremely strict person or he will end up exactly like his father, but I think he's going to end up like his father anyway because even if the two extremes are on different sides, they will end up the same.
I think Lennie, although he forgets a lot of things, knows George well. When he was convincing George that he could survive in the wild, he was secretly making George feel bad so he could stay.

In some situations, he is regarded as immature. He rejects George's advice and struggles to recall many details. Lennie is heavily blamed by George, who is aware of his flaws. Even though he can occasionally come across as impatient, he is very aggressive towards Lennie. This is most likely a result of the abuse George has faced in his past. Okonkwo has a very strong will. He is married to three women and has eight children. He is a rich man with a short fuse. The thought of becoming his father is Okonkwo's worst nightmare. He consequently lives most of his life in fear.

George claims that without Lennie he'd be working at his own job with financial security if it weren't for Lennie ruining his opportunities. 
Another similarity between the books could be the characters trouble with money. In things fall apart, Okonkwo's father had multiple debts he was never able to repay. He also has hard times remembering things so by him asking multiple times this is where we see George getting frustrated. 
Okonkwo has a hard time showing emotions because of his harsh relationship with his dad. This causes him to be harsh as well because of his dad so this causes him to fall into the path of his father.
