This is a great resource to go back to time and again.

This film works on many levels, not least the  expansive shots of the mudflats, juxtaposed with closeups of the sculptures or parts of sculpture. But the main thing I noticed was the marriage film footage with the sound. No narrative was needed in Junkopia. Sounds and music gave atmosphere and meaning to each part of the movie. It made me think about how important the careful use of the right sounds/music will be in experimental video essay/short film making, and that this marriage can can tell the story on its own. 

 

I've long been a fan of Gerhard Richter as I researched him in first year.     One of my favourite artists, whom I admire for his talent in various media. I was bowled over by  Seascape, which we saw in the Guggenheim.  This work is part of Richter's series of what he calls 'Photo Paintings' an addition to previous works, this one was made in 1998. It's so beautifully painted it really looks like a photograph until you get close up and see the actual paint on the canvas.

Originally created in 1918, in Endless Column Brâncuși references the axis mundi, or axis of the world, a concept crucial to the beliefs of many traditional cultures embodying the connection between heaven and earth. This focus reflected Brâncuși's strong and persistent affinity for the sacred, cosmic, and mythical. Endless Column also treats another theme of Brâncuși's work, the idea of infinity, here suggested by the repetition of identical rhomboid shapes. This image shows the most famous of Brâncuși's Endless Columns, which was the version that served as the centerpiece of the tripartite sculptural memorial to fallen soldiers in World War I erected in Tirgu-Jiu, Romania in 1938.
