I didn't know about the sand exporting at all. So I read some articles and figured out some facts. International trade in sand is rising as local supply outstrips demand. The destruction of habitats vital to fish, crocodiles, turtles and other forms of riverine and marine life accompanies the destruction of sand barriers and coral reefs protecting coastal communities, as in Sri Lanka and Cambodia. Sand extraction lowers the water table and pollutes drinking water, as in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, while stagnant pools created by extraction on land foster malaria.

No one knows how much damage is being done to the environment because sand extraction is a largely hidden threat, under-researched and often happening in isolated places. That is the disaster of the environmental part.

Can an ecosystem like this ever actually recover?

Once millions of metric tons of sand are scraped away, altering the water depth, salinity, and currents, is it possible to replant and restore those mangroves, or is the damage permanent?

After watching Lost World during the [APCEIU X SIMA] Film Screening Event, I realized that many people are often focused on the benefits they can gain from activities such as sand dredging (Do they think on the effects).From my perspective, I think that the Singapore government carries out sand dredging to increase the country's land area through land reclamation. In business, I believe that many companies prioritize profit over environmental sustainability. However, dredging can cause many negative impacts on the environment, including the destruction of ecosystems, loss of biodiversity, and an increased risk of natural disasters. In my opinion, the growing number of environmental problems and natural disasters we see today is largely influenced by human activities. Therefore, I would like to remind all of us that, as human beings, we have a responsibility to take care of our environment. By protecting nature today, we are also helping future generations live on a beautiful planet with amazing scenery and a healthy ecosystem.
