LEAK PRROF BAG (ENGLISH)
What is the science behind?
Plastic bags are made of a polymer called low-density polyethylene. Polymers are long chains of molecules. The tip of the pencil squeezes between the chains without breaking them but the chains’ flexible property helps to form a temporary seal against the edge of the pencil. This enables a pencil to pierce the bag without losing even one drop of water.
Materials:

Zipper storage bag

Water

Several sharpened pencils

Instructions:
STEP ONE: Fill up the zipper storage bag about 2/3 full of water.

Raisins Dance: (ENGLISH)
This simple states of matter experiment will allow students to see how solid, liquid, and gas substances react. What's the science behind this experiment: Students will see the raisins “dancing” in the soda. The raisins will fall to the bottom of the glass and then float back up to the top. They will then fall again. What is happening in the carbonation gas from the soda adheres to the raisin. This causes the raisins to float to the top. Once the bubble pops at the surface, the raisin then falls to the bottom again.

Materials:
Glass
Raisins
Clear soda, such as Sprite

Instructions:
STEP 1: Pour soda into a clear glass.
STEP 2: Add some raisins and watch what happens.
- Questions to Spark More Curiosity & Critical Thinking
What do you see? What do you think makes the raisins go up? And why do you think they go back down again?

Luego volverán a caer. Lo que está sucediendo en el gas de carbonatación de la soda se adhiere a la uva pasa. Esto hace que las pasas floten hacia arriba.

Ms. Principal and all first grade teachers will have a discussion about creating a science night April 21 wit the administrators permission.
- We will discuss about the activities taking place in the cafeteria to use the tables as a set up and as it is the biggest place.
- The funds will come from "Hold a scratch card fundraiser"
Scratch card fundraising is a great way to reach a school’s fundraising goals fast. Volunteers approach their friends, family, and neighbors and ask them to scratch two circles off of their fundraising card. Under each circle is a small donation amount ($0.50-$3.00). Teachers will also ask relatives for any donations with materials.
- Safety precautions will be monitored by one adult in each lab. All materials used will be children safe as well. We will have all safety equipment just in case and for children to observe and remember their use but googles and lab coats will be used in each station.
- Participants will be teachers and any tutors who volunteer.
- There will be Pizza Hut delivered (different toppings), sodas, horchata, juice, water, chips, popcorn and cookies.
- Two teachers will be monitoring the event, writing down any changes we should make and what we should keep doing for the upcoming years. This teachers will also be helping in the event if needed. All teachers in first grade will help set up the event.
