Following a pan input and a class discussion, we thought about why Christians might thank or praise God.

WALT: understand how Christians say thank you to God around Harvest time.

Today we explored the meaning of Harvest. As a class, we spoke about how Harvest is a time when Christians say thank you to God for all that they have been given and all that God has made. We went on to create a class 'harvest basket' of things we might be thankful for before sharing ideas on what a Christian might give at Harvest. During the session, Abdullah highlighted a link between religions, stating how Muslim people also give to people in need i.e., Zakat and Sadaqah.

To finish of our lesson, we sang the Harvest Samba song! 🥕🥦🍅🥬🌽

Today we were introduced to the story of Christmas to help us to begin to understand why Christmas matters to Christians.

We also looked at the vocabulary that we will be learning and using in this unit.

Today, following our class input about the period of advent, we made our very own advent wreaths to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world and to help us wait patiently for the celebration of Jesus’ birthday.

Today we generated ideas about a) what Mary might be grateful for and b) what Christians are thankful for.

“Jesus was sent to be a saviour” was our favourite answer!

Today we recapped our learning so far. To begin, we went over this term's vocabulary and watched a short video all about the creation story. We then worked in small groups to retell the story of creation.

We were introduced to some new vocabulary such as ‘Mezuzah’, ‘Shema’, ‘Torah’ and ‘Synagogue’.

We looked at a range of mezuzahs and a) thought about what they are and b) guessed what belongs inside.

Finally we learned about how they fit in with Jewish life and listened to the Shema.

Today we spoke about what is important to Jewish people and how the mezuzah reminds them of that. We then discussed what is important to us and made our own mezuzah scrolls to share our important messages.

We spoke about religious leadership, charity work and even teaching!

In preparation for our class book making session, we worked hard to understand what Jewish people do - and do not do - on Shabbat and why.
