How can I incorporate individual work with technologies into my lessons with out it being such a distraction and taking a long time to transition into?

I think it is important to know and acknowledge your students' different learning styles and use that to your advantage when making your lesson. If the student learns in a way that they are comfortable with and will keep them focused, then more work can be accomplished. Here is a document on how to better tailor your lessons to your students.

I had this same question in mind. Honestly, making sure that students are staying on task is a way to keep technology from becoming a distraction. Making sure to start class on time can also ensure that every minute is used to complete the assignment.

This is a question that always comes to my mind whenever I think about using technology in my classroom. I plan on having procedures that the students have to follow while using technology. I would have consequences for students who do not follow these procedures. I also think that students would stay more focused if they know what is expected of them while using technology.

I think you could introduce technology into the classroom before hand. Afterwards, you could use websites that are tailored specifically to the child's needs. There are games and websites where they can learn at their own space.

This would be a great way to incorporate some classroom management expectations that you have for you students. Maybe offer rewards or points for staying on task.
