The Korean War was a proxy war for the Cold War. The United Kingdom and the U.S. (Aka, the West) supported South Korea. While China and the Soviet Union supported North Korea. The Korean war connects to today's world because many leaders and citizens of South Korea (and other nations that were involved) go and honor the people that fought during the Korean War, since if the war never took place, then their lives would have been very different.
"Korean War". HISTORY, 2022, https://www.history.com/topics/korea/korean-war.
