these practices help give me a peace of mind since i know that the coffee beans are sourced ethically. this also helps to ensure price transparency since i know there are no longer any hidden costs. unintended consequences could be that there can be price surges due to the increase in the cost taken to produce the coffee ethically now

C.A.F.E. Practices lead to coffee farmers holding very high standards in terms of labour - e.g., who they hire - a possible unintended consequence would be overall profit falling (increase in price outweighed by increase in costs to maintain ethical supply chain) - this could lead to issues of child labour/workarounds etc.

Onerous burdens on coffee farmers to get certifications that are recognised by Starbucks to continue doing business - increased cost despite the higher prices that Starbucks pay them.

Starbucks' commitment to ethical and sustainable coffee sourcing through C.A.F.E. Practices has significantly enhanced the company's reputation. This, in turn, has positively influenced consumer perception, attracting socially responsible consumers to our stores and products.

1. As senior executives, ultimately our goal is to increase our bottom-line. CSR has the ability to influence and improve the company's bottom-line. However the question then really is about whether the benefits gained from CAFE practices outweighs the increase in cost incurred when practicing the CAFE framework.

With CAFE practices, there are more auditing processes and on-site supervision, there will be higher costs and if the company does not want to absorb the cost, it will have to be passed on to the consumers (unintended consequences).

There will also more strain on sourcing system, because there is now more stringent filtering (2 - 3 years).
