I remember in a science class that I took in high school, we were learning about velocity and gravity and things like that and we practically used an everyday event and found the science behind it. When I think of the word manipulation, I always think about science experiments where you are testing different materials and recording the outcome so you can test your theory and then continue to test and observe to see how successful you were.

Having students create an interactive notebook for notes allows for different sections where the student can put what they learned in their own terms in ways that they are able to understand. Another example is being able to teach the material using different mediums. Some students are visual learners while others may be hands on learners. Being able to recognize when students do not understand also helps the teacher reflect on their instructional methods.

In college, since we are in the middle of a pandemic, working collaboratively has been a new challenge especially on zoom. The use of the breakout rooms allows for group work and cooperation to flow. Another example of this is during discussions in class, students are able to piggyback off of each other and everyone gets a chance to contribute to the conversation. This encourages students to participate and give their opinions on a topic.

I remember in school we would practice voting. Like in elementary school we would vote for class president and other offices, but it would be in a similar way to a real election so that students can begin to see the methods and importance of democracy. Another example is as simple as following a recipe. There are steps in order to create something yummy, but there may also be math involved depending on how many people have to eat. Using it to adapt to the situation is a life skill that students need to learn.

Playing a board game is under the intentional characteristic of learning. With a game like monopoly, the object of the game is to have the most money. Now there are multiple ways to get to this point; someone could have the most property or just have very strategic ways of getting other people’s money. Either way the goal is to win. Another example is when a teacher may combine lessons that lead up to a project or presentation. Students are working towards the goal of presenting their findings and answers.
