While on this trip I went hiking with them and we hiked a really long trail. On this trail, I remember being incredibly amused at nature's beauty and what it has to offer. Just by looking around, you feel so small in such a big place, being filled around with millions of trees and animals. You never know what is lurking on top of trees or between there roots. While we were making our way up the mountain trail to see the beautiful waterfall, we came across some astonishing creatures. One of them is a banana slug that we saw slithering its way across the trail to make it to the other side. At first sight, we were frightened if it was a poisonous dart frog because they looked like it for a second. We then just walked by it and let it be on its way. The smell of being around such beautiful nature is so pure. The fresh smell of leaves and the pine trees around us. As we were making our way further up the trail I saw this tree stump in an open field so I decided to go on top of it and take a picture. Little did I know there was a snake slithering between its roots. I did not know what direction to jump off because I did not know what direction it was facing. Once I looked down and saw that it's facing in front of the trail, I jumped off from the back and ran around it trying to avoid it. The snake looked around 3-4 feet long and was black with red stripes. We finally made it to the top and saw the beautiful waterfall. We would look down and all we see is the mist coming right back up. You can see perfectly clear where the water crashed with the river underneath and it created this massive downpour of water. We made our way back down the hill safely and everything was amazing, nature is awesome.

Alex claims that he is 24 years old. Jim worries about how under-prepared Alex is for the plans he has in Alaska. Alex tells Jim that he has a gun and he can survive but Jim notices that the gun isn't strong enough to kill larger animals. Jim tries to help Alex by offering him extra food and some work boots he can wear. Jim then drops off Alex in Denali National Park, and he is sure that Alex will come back to civilization. 

Analysis: I agree with Jim Gallien in this chapter on how he thinks about Alex. Alex is definitely not prepared for the wild but it was a bad idea of Jim's to leave Alex into the wild with so little supplies.

Mckinley (p.9).This particular trail was named The Stampede Trail (p.10). There were construction (p.10) workers with three busses and they left one of them halfway through the trail so that people can rest inside when they are through the trail. Bus 142 (p.10) was the bus that was in the middle of the trail and the also the bus that Chris got to live in for a while. Chris was trying his best to stay alive out in the wild but then was found two weeks and a half dead in that bus. There was then an autopsy on Chris after his death and it was most likely common that that he died due to starvation (p.14). The reason why it was thought that Chris died to starvation was the fact that he was 5 foot 6 and only 67 pounds.

Wayne Westerberg talks more about Christopher McCandless to the author, Jon Krakauer. Chris liked living with Westerberg for the short time they were together. Westerberg had a job for McCandless and a place to live as well. Westerberg explained how hard of a worker Chris was and how smart he was as well with always reading books. Chris had to go back due to his sentence for pirating television signals. We quickly learn that Chris was from Virginia and that he comes from a middle-class family. Chris attended Emory University in Georgia where he was in charge of editing the school's newspaper. He was invited into Phi Betta Kappa Honors on principle. After Chris graduated he refused his parent's money and their new car. Chris was in serious shock about losing his perfectly well-running car for another one. What Chris does with all this money is that he donates it to a charity organization named OXFAM

Analysis: Chris comes from a somewhat wealthy couple and I disagree with the actions he is doing and he had his life set out already for success. He decided to take a journey to death by going to Alaska.

He begins killing small animals and soon a moose but has difficulty preserving it and starts reading Thoreau’s Walden and realizes that eating animals is unnecessary. His journals reveal that he might have achieved some epiphany about life and wanted to go back.
