I just watched a video on reed making. The video shows that it takes lots of time, patience, and skill. I can almost be sure that I will make mistakes when creating my first reed and maybe even throughout the whole time when I'm making reeds. The first thing that I got out of my box was my string. The string is used to tie the reed to the oboe staple. The color string I got was pink because I wanted to have a bright color that was interesting. The next thing I got out of my box was beeswax. Beeswax is used to coat the string so that it is more airtight. The next thing I got was my ruler that measures in Millimeters. This is used to make sure I have the correct length reed and that it will fit right. The next thing I got from my box was the cane. The cane is the reed. It is what makes the buzzing sound that makes the music. The cutting block was the next thing and it is used to put the reed on when you are cutting it. After that we have the oboe staple. The oboe stable is used to hold the reed on it. Next I have the plaques. The plaques are used to put in between the reed while scraping it to keep it from bending and to give a solid surface. And lastly, we have the knife. This was what I was most excited for because, well, its a knife. The knife is used to scrape the reed so that the vibrations are in tune and sound good.

The way you make reeds is you first you need to fold the reed in half. Then hold the reed on the oboe staple and then put the oboe staple on the mandrel. Then tie your string to something like a chair pole. After that cover the string with beeswax to create a air tight seal. Make sure the entire length of the staple and cane is 73mm. Tightly wrap the string around the cane.
