         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hello Everyone we are going to be talking about the great Ikhwan al-Safa. The Ikhwan composed their best-known works of philosophy, science and religion in this period.&nbsp;<br><br>It contained 52 encyclopaedic essays with subjects such as mathematics, music, logic, astronomy, natural sciences, and the nature of the soul, spirituality, revelation and ethics. They also wrote epistles with the main ideas of knowledge, unity, purification of the soul and human salvation.&nbsp;<br><br>Did you know that the Ikhwan called themselves&nbsp;<br>kullan al-Wafa 'The Faithful Friends' was a name connected to a hadith of the Prophet: The faithful; are like one person and one soul.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Al- Farabi (p81)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Al- Farabi was a philosopher and musician. Not much is known about his background, but it’s speculated that he’s of Turkish or Persian origin. <br><br>Some of his achievements were the fact that he wrote numerous philosophical books. Al-Farabi was especially well known for his commentaries and explanations of Aristotle's works. His most famous work, <em>al-Madina al-Fadila </em>(The Virtuous City). He wrote work on music theory and was an extremely talented musician.<br><br>Some interesting facts about him are that scholars believe he was a Shia because of his philosophical ideas. Al-Farabi’s most famous work was modelled on Plato’s <em>Republic.</em> Muslim scholars of the time referred to Aristotle as ‘The First Teacher”, they also called Al-Farabi ‘The Second Teacher’ to indicate his high status.<br><br>Some things that led him to seek knowledge were that he was incredibly interested in philosophy from a young age, and he already had many books on it. He was dedicated to his work, and very passionate about philosophy. Al-Farabi also loved music, and that’s why he was such a skilled musician.<br><br>His philosophical ideas were useful because it helped people see the world in a new light, and in an age of discovery, all information was vital. He linked the past to his time, and use other’s theories to base his work on. He helped people understand music and the way it works even more than they did before.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Welcome everyone, today we will be talking about Ibn Sina. Ibn Sina was known in the Latin world as Avicenna. His career began with the Samanids. He became the most famous philosopher and doctor of his time. He was born in 980 into an Ismaili family and was raised in the city of Bukhara. In his autobiography, he discusses his education, travels, court intrigues, study habits, and writings.Ibn Sina composed 200 books on philosophy and medicine, among other subjects</div>]]></description>

         <title>Al-Biruni a traveller and ethnographer</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Abu Rayhan al-Biruni was born in Khwarizm, a religion in central Asia just east of the Oxus River.<br>He was supported by a king of Khwarizm, but after the king’s death, Al-Biruni sought patronage at the Samanid courant. The Samanids were overthrown by Mahmud of Ghazna. Mahmud wanted both al-Biruni and Ibn Sina to join his court. Al-Biruni refused his invitation so Mahmud sent his troops to bring them both to the Ghaznavid court. Ibn Sina managed to escape and al-Biruni worked in Ghazna until the end of his life.<br><br>Al-Biruni was also a polymath and had expertise on many subjects like astronomy, medicine, mathematics, and the natural sciences. He is said to have written over one hundred and eighty works.<br><br>Something that might have led him to continue seek for knowledge was the king of Khwarizm, who supported him before he died.<br><br>In his work he describes the major festivals of the Jews, Christians, Muslims, and others. When discussing the festivals of Muslims he recounts the event of Ghadir Khumm. People can learn and gain knowledge of different cultures and religions.</div>]]></description>
