Schools should teach responsible AI use instead of banning it because AI is becoming more relevant in the modern day world. As of today, AI is being used in many different industries, an example of such are the robot cleaners that have been introduced to hawker centres and restaurants. We cannot avoid AI that is being constantly developed in the modern day world where technology is very prominent. Schools should instead teach students on responsible use of AI to ensure that students are able to keep up with the fast-paced development of the world while ensuring that they do not become too reliant on technology and know how to maintain their independence. Therefore, schools should teach students on responsible AI use instead of banning something that will inevitably become a significant part of our lives.

Firstly, it allows students with poorer backgrounds to be on the same level as other students who have tuition. Many students in Singapore have tuition to understand school content better. However, some students are unable to have this privilege as they come from a lower income family. For example, a student who faces problems in science wants to improve in that subject but does not have sufficient money to pay for the tuition fees. By using Chat GPT, the student can ask questions related to the topic and answer them at their own pace. By using AI as their tuition teacher, these students can be on par with other students in their cohort.

Schools should shift from timed examinations, to projects (group and solo)

The prevalence of AI is not a result of its usefulness as a tool, but its alignment with the educational ethos of our current systems.; sote learning Ai/ learning algorithms are very much like us students, steeped in the Asian education system: trained to spot questions, recognise concepts and regurgitate content. Thus, the introduction of AI, is the logical endpoint of such pedagogy. Hence, if we are to truly test students for their critical capabilities, it is not enough to just place stricter regulations - we must shift towards a holistic and varied approach to education.

Why is this so? With the shift to project based work (team or solo) students will be tested based on their ability to apply knowledge rather then their ability to memorise. This is especially important as understanding does not purely refer to knowledge, but the ability to apply the knowledge in real life. This can be seen in how Poly students (learning under more project based work) are better equipped in handling not only work, but working with other...

I agree with NTU's decision to penalise the students.

I believe that the students should not have used generative A.I. to do their work and that the university was right to penalise them as the students had already been warned that not to use A.I. tools for their work. They had been given repeated reminders and yet they still used it.

Aside from that I believe it is right to penalise these students as it is unfair to their peers who did their due diligence to properly research information for their work. These students would have gotten the same mark without ever needing to work due to A.I. Letting them off the hook would have symbolised to these students that their hard work on par with their peers who did almost nothing but type a prompt and let an A.I. do their work.

Thus, I agree with NTU's decision to penalise the students who used generative A.I. to do their work.

Yes schools should teach responsible AI use because AI is part of the future and is it very likely that the students now would be heavily reliant on AI in the future for their jobs or daily use. For example, technology is becoming more and more relevant these days and many businesses are converting to using technology instead of their own traditional methods as it is faster and more convenient. Therefore, having schools teach responsible AI use would be highly beneficial to the students now.

However, schools teaching responsible AI use may be ineffective as students may not listen to them. Many students now often use online AI tools such as ChatGPT to help them with their homework and projects in school. Some students even go as far as directly copying off the answers that is given by AI. For example, I have a friend who often uses AI to help with their homework and they directly copy it off from AI. Even tough the teachers have warned them that doing it is an offence but he just ignored their words and continue doing it. Therefore, I feel that this may be ineffective as some students just do not care and would keep using AI for the wrong uses.

Yes, schools should teach responsible usage of AI. AI is something we can't run from, it is here to stay, and it will change our future whether we like it or not. So instead of outright banning the use of AI, schools should incorporate AI into lessons, homework and study notes. For example, you could have the students make a presentation for the class, and instead of prohibiting the use of AI, you could have the students use it to find snippets of information, not use it for everything of course, but to use it on sources or ideas on what kind of sources to pick. So yes, with AI being the catalyst for a change in our future, I believe that schools should teach responsible AI usage, rather than to outright ban it.

I believe that with AI being a significant factor in the future landscape, schools cannot afford to have their students become mindless zombies, relying solely on AI for ideas, answers, and teaching. Of course, we can incorporate AI tools into assignments and lessons, but we still need to have exams or class tests to ensure that students are still learning from lessons and assignments, rather than just relying on AI tools like ChatGPT. Schools can implement face-to-face exams or tests to ensure that students understand the chapters without relying on AI. So yes, schools have to adapt to change, especially with the violent changing landscape of our future, but schools also need to ensure the students aren't just fully reliant on AI tools.

I would disagree with NTU's penalty, as the use of AI is wrongly viewed, seen more as a cheat sheet than an assisting learning tool that can be used in the future.

Firstly, AI should be encouraged and allowed to be used, as it is soon to be a tool utilised in future jobs and society. The use of AI is constantly growing each day, with its learning capabilities available to every student. Across a test conducted across Singapore, approximately 9 in 10 students have used AI for learning. This shows that AI is seen to be a tool to be used for learning, not just cheat sheets. This proves it to be a possible tool used by people in the future, especially in jobs and future work. Restricting Ai usage blocks off learning opportunities of the use and benefits of AI, affecting the student's pursuits for learning and future knowledge of AI use. This shows that AI is heavily relied on, not for whole answers, but for responsible use, generating organized and dissected information.

Not only that, but use of AI as learning companions is often encouraged by government and educators, seen as an accessible source of learning. In numerous articles, and my English teacher, the use of AI learning has been strongly encouraged. Not to be abused for answers, but explanations and knowledge. This can help provide learning access 24/7 to all students, regardless of background and opportunities. For example, I once had a friend who could not afford tuition and assessment books. However, using AI, he could generate questions and information for free. This generative and responsible use of AI shows that AI can be beneficial to make work more accessible for students while requiring hard work.

Some people may disagree with me, sharing that AI creates unoriginal work and information, and can be often abused by users to fabricate answers, which means AI use should be removed entirely. However, despite this small problem, AI should not be entirely blocked off to students. AI can be often subjectively used by users, whether or not to learn or simply create fake answers. Therefore, to address this, AI use should be limited to students, such that it can be used to provide information and knowledge, but not as free answers.

All in all, AI should be banned, but not entirely- providing beneficial knowledge to people of all backgrounds, it can be used as an effective learning tool both in schools and workplaces. However, it should be partially banned, where simply generating answers shouldn’t be allowed, as it blocks off any sense of creativity and innovation.

I am against NTU's penalty, as from now on, AI is going to be an integral part of how we function and live, whether the school likes it or not. AI has undeniably influenced many aspects of human life. Large companies are inserting AI tools and elements into their products, Businesses are increasingly using generative AI to make advertisements. Individuals employed in many different industries make use of AI to ease their work. Studies have shown that AI usage has roughly doubled from 2024 to 2025, which is just a year. AI is also expected to have an annual growth rate of 36% from now to 2030. AI is more accessible than ever, and more used than ever, and it will inevitably be commonplace in the near future. THerefore, I feel that banning AI completely from students is a very backwards and outdated policy, disregarding the future that is geared towards AI.

Yes. Schools should teach students to use AI responsibly instead of prohibiting it.

As humans step into the AI era, AI has become an inseparable part of our daily lives. Most people use AI frequently, and is most popular among students for using it in their studies. However, some students have yet the discipline to appropriately use AI, and abuse it to cut corners when doing homework. Thus, schools should teach responsible use of AI.

Moreover, banning AI is not a viable solution in schools, as they may find themselves one step behind compared to other schools. AI if used correctly are able to help take student's learning to the next level. For example, I have used AI before to check my grammar when writing compositions, and rephrase sentences to convey messages clearer. Not only do I get higher grades, I also learn methods to phrase my sentences better in the process of using AI. This shows how AI can help elevate student's performance, if they do not use it to skip through their homework, especially when it can provide immediate feedback where teachers may not be around to guide students.

Thus, instead of forbidding the use of AI in schools, teachers should take up the initiative to educate students on acceptable use of AI will boost their learning, as well as misusing AI will lead to facing severe consequences.

firstly it can benefit the less privileged since they can't afford to pay for tuition or extra classes. But with AI they can ask any questions relating to their subjects if they ever have a doubt. For example a rich kid's parent would invest their money in the best tuition in town. however students with financial issues may find themselves struggling to even buy textbooks leave alone paying for tuition fees. That's when AI is useful as it is free of cost and answers any questions. This allows the poorer students to have sufficient resources for them to revise and study. thus AI is useful
