Tone - The tone for this book is formal and somewhat distant from the story. It is an old book however so this makes sense it would be more formal.

Style - The style is this book is very elaborate. Very old and descriptive words are used in a style not normally seen today.

Theme:

Macbeth and the Return of the King share many themes so I'll try tp pick one that not common. Salvation and Damnation is a theme presented for Macbeth on the gradesaver website and I feel like it is prevalent in RoTK. In Macbeth he is caught in a struggle for power against his friends and foes and has to face his morality. In RoTK an endless cycle of life and death for all eternity, with morality and struggle everywhere. IN many instances, people are saved or destroyed based on the actions of other - salvation and damnation.

In my book, Denothir is most like Macbeth. They both are ruthless and wise, but with fatal flaws such as pride and ambition. In addition, they both come to positions of power, that king king and acting king(the line of succession in RoTK is weird and hes pretty much king)

The book that I finished for this nine weeks was The Return of the King, by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book is very interesting, but often confusing at the same time; not to mention the fact it's incredibly long. I would however, recommend it to anyone who really likes fiction since it is credited as one the best books ever. But not everyone would enjoy it as it's fairly complicated and leads to a lot of dead ends. Tolkien knew that the more questions you left unanswered, the more you would retain the reader in a sense of mystery, evident in one example with this lines, "Before him were the bones of a mighty man. He had been clad in mail, and still his harness lay there whole; for the cavern's air was dry as dust, and his hauberk was gilded. His belt was of gold and garnets, and rich with gold was the helm upon his bony head face downward on the floor. He had fallen near the far wall of the cave, as now could be seen, and before him stood a stony door closed fast: his finger bones were still clawing at the cracks. A notched and broken sword lay by him, as if he had hewn at the rock in his last despair." (Pages 60-61). This is a prime example of the mystery in this book and we are given a very lengthy description, but then no answer. The whole book is written like this, open to interpretation for the reader. If you like mystery and stories of great struggle and power, this is an amazing book as the ultimate enemy, named Sauron is described as, "The ultimate enemy". The whole concept of this book, and the trilogy in general is a race against time to stop Sauron before he becomes too powerful, leading to intense situations that I think many people could enjoy. Therefore, my opinion is that this is an expertly written book and a very good story. Everyone who loves fiction ,suspense or action should definitely read this.
