1) being able to think like the boys on the island and experience first-hand what it was like for them to have lived their lives on the island without adults in charge (in the dance studio) because it made me understand the thought process of the boys more and their emotional distresses

2) not reading into the meaning of certain words and interpreting the text wrongly which costed me lots or marks during WA (sometimes because the words used aren't familiar to me, as someone who doesn't read often/as a Singaporean)

3) come up with an alternative title for the text. (The savage within us)

3) What is interesting about the way the writer has written the text?

The writer described the surroundings very well and used many phrases and comparisons to describe the environment. The writer also described the characters very well that allowed me to visualize the characters and scenarios easily.

2) A challenge I faced was trying to stay focussed when reading the book. I had a hard time understanding some parts which made me lose focus very fast. I was not very interested in the novel.

3. Find a partner and talk about a moment in the text that you both can relate to.

   One part of the novel we can relate to is the moments where Piggy felt left out. We related to this as throughout our life experiences, we have had many experiences where we don't feel seen or heard, like our opinions do not matter.

1. A highlight for me this past semester as an elect lit student is the fact that while reading these texts in class, I’ve gotten a deeper understanding of the novel and learnt alot from just the first 5 chapters so far. It has expanded my knowledge of reading and truly understanding what every word of phrase and the meaning or intention of it that shaped the story into how it is. This has been a highlight as it makes reading whether it is poetry or the book an exquisite experience and opens my eyes more to literature.

2. A challenge I’ve faced as an elect lit student is sometimes not truly understanding the meaning behind that part of the text and being confused or not being able to express my thought on pen and paper or form the sentences I want to express in my writing.

3. Question: What would be the effect if the text was written from a different POV

   Answer: I think the whole text would then have a different meaning and present an entirely different story or scene compared to the original one.

3)Have your views changed after reading this text? Yes,LOTF broadened my perspective on different peoples personality and way of thinking for example Ralph thinking in a more civilised way while Jack thinking more selfishly .

3) Think of a character you can give advice to. What would you say and why?

I would give advice to Jack. I would advise him to be a more compassionate person towards others especially Piggy and not always to think about hunting and eating. He should be a better leader and stop leading other out of fear.

3. Question: How did you feel as you read through the text?

I feel the story of the book is very interesting when I read it first time. The story is a group of boys tried to living in the island without adults, which is very attractive for me. When I read more about the book, the topic of the book is not just that, it is also about the civilisation versus savagery.

1. A highlight for me is reading such a unique and meaningful novel such as Lord of the Flies. I feel that this novel is quite relevant to today's society, how one can turn from innocent to a savage over a span of time. I also think that this novel is overall a really fun and interesting read as it covers various thought provoking topics that makes you ponder about the human civilisation.

2. A challenge that I faced during this semester is trying to constantly improve and enhance my responses to the various question about the novel. Although the points are there for everyone to see, the way you respond could be the factor that separates you from a passing grade and a distinction grade.

3. "If you were a reporter, what tough questions would you ask the main character in the text?"

   • When you first realised that you were stranded on an island, did you envision a future of getting out or were you just trying to survive and live as long as nature allows you to?

3. does the experience of the characters in the text remind you of any real life relationships among people you know?

in the novel, we evidently get to see how jack and Ralph's have different leading skills and how each of them prioritises different things. Like how Raplph prioritises the fire and shelters while Jack prioritises hunting. I see this very often in real life, where everyone has their own way of leading a group.
