Jeannette's determination to break out of that cycle is super inspiring and the way she begins to catch onto the wrongdoings of her parents, and her journey to rise above the social class she was born into.

For me, reading Jeanette's story is like looking through a window into someone else's world. It's a glimpse into a life that's pretty different from my own, It shows the resilience and strength it takes to overcome tough circumstances. It's wild to see how Jeannette's upbringing shaped her, giving her this fierce independence and drive. It's not just a story about struggle, but also about hope and the power of dreaming big even when life throws curveballs at you. although I view her life through a window I also can relate to her in the aspect of her dad, I remember seeing my dad go through withdrawals and feeling hopeless because I was just a kid as i'm sure Jeanette felt as well, it's nice being able to read about a person's life you would think you share nothing in common with and being able to see similarities in many ways while reading.

My beliefs influence how I see the book. I care about families being strong and fair, so I feel for the kids in the book and get mad at the parents for ignoring them. I also think working hard and not quitting is crucial, I often found myself questioning my values while reading this book while also finding things ameriable like the way they did not place value in material items as do I.

Like Jeannette and her siblings start to believe what their parents think about money and success, which makes them feel ashamed about being poor. There are many quotes that represent the neglect and the poverty state of the family from the book here's one showing the parents neglect for the kids have for their kids "I have to believe they'll come back... if I don't believe, then they might not return. they might leave us forever." (pg. 129) jeannet makes this comment when they go to Phoenix and decide not to take their own kids with them, And another quote of the Walls family trying to justify them stealing because of their financial state "God doesn't mind you bending the rules a little if you have a good reason" (pg 111).

I read this part through a window/mirror I couldn't relate with everything Jeanette went through financially due to the severity and I am extremely grateful for that, but I can understand somewhat how it feel like to not come from the wealthiest families and having family find it acceptable to do something that would usually be considered weird.

It's about not giving up on your big dreams, even when life gets really hard. This book really tells us to keep trying and to hold on to our dreams, no matter how impossible they might seem. no matter the adversity and hardship the walls family faced they never lost their sense of determination and belief in a better future although the parents never lost hope the kids did and it was very understandable, overall it really shows that no matter how messed up your personal life may be too never give up on having hope.
