A Theoretical approach would be someone who takes action and predicts ideas in order to get certain answers. For example, conflict theory was used in Patricia Hill Collins's article, “Distinguishing Features of Black Feminist Thought”. In the article, Colin describes what she experienced in her life as a black female while she overcame certain oppressions she later became an example of a black feminist and acknowledged other females who were racialized as well. She soon tried to give them that self-confidence by empowering them while also questioning and answering for the oppressed groups. She believed the three reasons why they were oppressed were due to economic, political, and ideological reasons. On the other hand, classical theory is analyzing on specific arguments of the subject such as how covid-19 affects learning in America. We can use theoretical paradigms to understand educational inequality both domestically and globally by critically using theoretical perspectives/ theories that make us think about how education inequalities exist for certain people. In the Hooks reading, teaching to transgress, Hooks challenges sexism and racism. She uses her theories as a form to heal and advocate for her to be free. Inequality in education was seen by her personally and she was able to express her feelings through her own personal problems. While she would see the “rare white teacher” (hook 4) and see racial integration but created seminars focusing on transformative pedology. Each individual's readings portray scenarios where educational inequality is happening and how to overcome it. In addition, others can do experiments and use the real world. examples.

This week we read about critical theoretical frameworks from writers such as Freire, Hook, and Hill Collins that differed from the theories of authors we read last week. The authors of last week proposed sociological concepts and the writers from this week used some of those concepts to explore how they work with educational inequality. We can use the ideas of writer Freire specifically to understand how inequality manifests into the education system. He explains that in schools the teachers and students have roles. For the teacher their role is to control how the world enters into the students thus “education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiques and makes deposits which the students patiently receive, memorize, and repeat” (Freire 72). Meaning that domestically and globally teachers hold all the power in schools and control what they teach students because of the role they play. As Freire mentioned the people in power use this to their advantage to continue pushing on the ideas of the oppressor onto students. Causing schools to be a place that continues inequality instead of promoting differences between children.

Classical theorists, such as Marxism that study the living conditions through a worker's lens show us that everything is institutionalized in order to alienate people and make them internalize their oppressions which then objectify them. We can use Freire and hooks' readings to explain further what Marx was talking about. For instance, Freire states that the way people are alienated is through education because they think of the students as objects and not people who have the right to express themselves; therefore, it creates robots in order to meet the skill and unskilled workers demand therefore schooling creates inequality everywhere capitalism rules. hooks put into practice another reality, then it goes further on what Marx studied because she explains the way we can humanize people childrenn are the key to a better future if we eradicate ideas imposed on them in school, like patriarchal-sexist ideas which affect low income people since due to economic burnings they internalize more oppressions which also alienates them

This week we read and learned about critical theory. We learned about Freire and his theory. Freire talked about the student-teacher relationship. He points out that there is a narrative teaching in which there are roles. Roles in which the teacher has the power and control in which they narrate and the students are expected to follow along and not participate until told to do so. He also introduces the banking theory in which teachers just give students information and the students are expected to repeat and just know the information. This differs from last week's classical theory because that focused on Dubuis theory of double consciousness and the struggle to fit into a society that's not accepting because of race. We can use their theoretical paradigms to understand inequality both domestically and globally because it gives us an idea of how school systems operate. With Freire and his theory, we saw inequality in the classrooms and the difference in power between teacher and student.

Someone who acts and expects ideas in order to arrive at specific observations would be using a theoretical approach. From Dubois theory relating to the sociological concepts and the double consciousness a person feels because of race and how society view them as whole in particular. The authors Freire, Hooks and even Collins expressed the oppressions of how a society can isolate you of being your own person. Freire and Hooks wrote to examine how they relate to educational inequality and the disparities in the educational systems. We can use Freire's theories in particular to comprehend how inequality appears in the educational system. He explains that both teachers and students play a part in schools. Freire's approach argued for making students active actors in their own education. Students understand that knowledge is power when education is used as a tool for self-improvement rather than a memorization exercise. Typically the interactions between the teachers and the learners were kind of a more teaching of trying to capture everything all at once and retain information for when it will be useful. Also The pedagogy of liberty that Freire supported stimulated conversation between the instructor and the students. He aimed to give kids the confidence to confront the current quo and pose questions to challenge an idea and the society of their environments. Freire Acknowledge the ideas that you are not an expert by owning up to errors, recognizing when a student knows more than you do, and utilizing that student's expertise to aid in the learning of others. On the other hand Bell Hooks argued that an engaged pedagogy to combat the overwhelming boredom, disinterest, and apathy that frequently characterize how instructors and students feel about the teaching and learning process can reiterate the idea of how before a society was used to understand the dynamics between the student and the instructors. Her critical theory perspective as a women challenged the interconnectedness of social categories such as race, gender, sexual orientation, class, etc, which leads to oppression of women and alters what it's like to be a woman in society. Educational inequality globally and domestically gives us an idea of how some schools and their systems operate or it may even be worse when it comes to the schools in which are underfunded and treated poorly. Around the globe pertaining of educational inequality is the unequal distribution of academic resources to socially excluded communities, including but not limited to school money, trained and experienced teachers, books, and technologies. These groups have typically been marginalized and oppressed throughout history.

When reading the different theories of Freire's critical pedagogy, Bell Hooks and Patricia Hill Collins offer insight regarding race, class, gender, and ethnicity. For example, In Freire's Pedagogy talks about how children take in education and how teachers instead of having them more involved are treated like objects just there to receive, memorize and repeat. When some cases when it comes to education, some teachers follow this method, which can be detrimental to the child in some cases of learning. As for other philosophers When it comes to race, class, and gender Bell hooks and Patricia Collins touches upon the struggle of being a woman and how the roles are still biased when it comes to patriarchal norms race Patria Collins talks about feminist African American women still face oppression when it comes to power and say in society.

These theoretical approaches were different in the fact that the first three readings spoke more about bias and diversity when it comes to the education system. Du bios talked about facing double conciseness having to live in a world that felt the whites always be on top. Most talks about racism still exist when it comes to the education system. Whereas the other reading touched more on African American Women. The roles of being a woman, feminism, and how women are generally affected in society.

In the reading “PEDAGOGY OF THE OPPRESSED” Freire talked about the critical pedagogy system and teachers' and students’ relationships in the classroom. According to him, education becomes an act of depositing, which he calls the ‘banking concept of education’. In this system student’s role is to patiently receive, memorize, and repeat. He argues that this pedagogy system is alienating students like slaves. According to him, the pedagogy system should build a critical consciousness among learners which will help them to differentiate which is fair or unfair. Education should not be authoritarian, rather it should be collaborative between teachers and students. Critical pedagogy can challenge society and can assist to build an oppression-free society. He made a connection between our education system and Marx’s theory of alienation and oppression. The difference is that Marx’s theory stresses the idea of alienation and oppression of proletariats and its connection with capitalism. Marx views the social conflict in society due to social class division. According to Marx, there are two main classes of people, one class is the bourgeoisie who controls the capital and means of production, and the other group is the proletariat which provides labor. Proletariat doesn’t have any say in their pay and they are paid very little. It does not matter how much the owner of the means of production earns, they always pay the producer the same even though the owners make much more profit. And for that, there is always such as the economic, political, and ideological struggle between classes. Faerie’s theory of critical pedagogy talks about how our education system alienates the learners where teachers have all power and students have no power or opinion. They both talked about inequality, but Marx talked about the income inequality between the bourgeoisie and the working class in society, but Freire especially talked about the disparity in our education system.
Bell hook stresses the idea of gender inequality and patriarchy in society. In patriarchy, men hold all the power whereas women are excluded from it. It is the system of male domination that subjugate women and structure gender inequality in society. The thought that women are inferior to men, and they are born to assist men, which subjugates women and relegates them to a secondary status. Male-dominated society enforces the idea that women should stay home, take care of children, cook for men, and should not contribute to the economy and politics. They are controlled by men’s vision. The idea that men are superior to women, denies women’s capacity and deprives them of equal opportunities. Patricia Hill Collins argues that race, gender, sexual identity, and class all are interconnected, and their intersection creates oppression towards women. She claims that recognizing this connection between experiences and consciousness can shape Black women’s everyday lives. Women’s contributions in society are not granted equally in society as men’s are granted.
Where Bell hook talks about how women are controlled by men’s vision, Dubois's classical theory talks about how black people are controlled by white people’s vision. Where classical theories talk about class, racial, and gender oppression as a whole, critical theories emphasized how sexism, racism, and alienation of students are biased and create inequality in receiving equal educational opportunity.

Classical theory is different from this week's critical theory because it focuses mainly on how societal issues are rooted in unique social life experiences and the way that systems in our society are structured. W.E.B. DuBois mentions how white teachers bias opinions exudes superiority and oppression on to their Black students in educational institutions. This directly relates to Karl Marx's views of conflict theory in which the teachers have power and the students do not.
Now when we look at the readings from this week, the three critical theoretical frameworks introduced by Hooks, Freire, and Collins and they help us understand inequality from the intersectionality of race, gender and class, conflict theory through Marxist views and gender oppression as well as patriarchy in society. We can use their theoretical paradigms to understand education inequality both domestically and globally by taking all of these factors into account when evaluating the quality of education that educators are putting forth and the quality of education students are exposed to and why. It also makes us look at the broader picture as to why certain students deal with obstacles while learning and why other students have advantages over others. Honestly, I believe that the education inequity is mainly the fault of the government which puts certain policies into play and the citizens of their country have to automatically abide by them. Some countries don't even require children to attend school whereas in North America, it is required by law. The people at the top have the power to control the majority of the population. Society is a reflection of what they deem important. The quality and lack thereof education is a form of oppression in a sense. Citizens are set up for failure.

Based on these three readings, they discuss the concepts of education in sociology and critical theory as well as how critical theory is different from the other ones that were discussed in class. In Freire’s reading Pedagogy of the Oppressed, he focuses on his theory of education. Freire points out on the student-teacher relationship and describes both of their roles in the classroom; he describes the teachers as the narrators since they provide class lectures for the students while the student is described as “listening objects”. Freire also introduces the “banking” concept of education and defines it as an oppression tool and discusses how education becomes a depositing act, characterizing the teacher as the depositor who provides communiqués and deposits and the students as depositories who listen patiently, memorizes, and repeat. Freire’s theories and point of view on education were mentioned in Bell Hook’s work. Bell Hooks excerpt in Teaching to Transgress discusses oppression and inequality in education and reflects her feelings from the experiences facing those issues when she was a student. Although she used her theories as a method for her to heal, she stated “Theory is not internally healing, liberatory, or revolutionary, it fulfills this function only when we ask that it do so and direct our theorizing towards this end” I believe that it expresses on why certain situations happen in one’s life and how does one reflect from it. Patricia Hill Collins’ work on Black Feminist Thought states the struggles that black women have faced, as well she states on how black feminist thought reaches to empower African American women through the context of social injustice and how it is a critical social theory. These theoretical approaches are different from the classical theorists from the previous lectures because these approaches are explaining the concepts based on the theorist’s theories and how it applies to society, we can use their theoretical paradigms to understand educational inequality both domestically and globally by going in-depth and understand how these theories take part in how education inequalities are faced in the system.

These theoretical approaches differ from the classical theory by the way they talk, Marx about income and overall inequalities within the bourgeoisie and the working class, Hooks talked about the gender inequality and Freie talks about the flaws in the educational system with how teachers treat students as if they are robots meant to take in information that is given and understand it right away. Whereas when it comes to DuBois’ theory, it is mainly about the racism that people of color face, having to look at themselves through their own eyes and the eyes of a predominantly white society. We can apply these theoretical approaches to educational inequality both domestically and globally by looking at Hook’s theory; we can then see how schools tend to control females, schools tend to worry about how girls dress because some boys find it “distracting” these young girls are hardly ever heard out and are often pulled out of class to address their clothing which takes away from their learning experience. This act targets the young women and basically teaches them that they have no say in what they can wear because someone else will deem it inappropriate, it boils down to being able to control these young women. When applying Marx’s theory we can see the alienation that students feel, for example when it comes to honor roll students and those not on the honor roll who receive better attention and education while in school? The honor roll students are always focused more and that builds a gap between them and the other students, the honor students are held at a higher standard and more is expected from them, whereas students not on the honor roll have a limited set of expectations set upon them; they are not expected to be better than what they already are.

The classical theory differs from critical theory this week since it focuses on how problems in society originate in distinct social life encounters and how our society's institutions are formed. W.E.B. Dubious discusses why white professors' biased attitudes impose supremacy and oppression on their Black students in educational settings, which links to Karl Marx's conflict theory views whereby teachers have power however students do not. We may apply these theoretical frameworks to comprehend inequality in education both locally and worldwide by taking all of these aspects into consideration when analyzing the quality of education that educators provide and the quality of education that students have access to, and the reason. It also forces us to consider the bigger picture, such as why certain students face difficulties while studying while other students hold an benefit compared to others.
