Working in the SPED department in a high school, I've been exposed to a lot of IEP's. However, to benefit the student I believe that IEP's should be shared with paraprofessionals. There have been soo many cases where I have been put on a student that I have zero history with and know nothing about. How am I supposed to help this student if I know nothing about them or their needs?

I actually have a friend that had an IEP though out elementary and high school. Their IEP helped them get though schooling very well. I remember their grade improved a lot though out our years in school and the team would also support her a lot with class. As a future educator I really want to try my best to have knowledge on how to accommodate the students and also get to know them to know exactly what I can do to help each student.

I think emotional services in schools are essential in ensuring student well-being, I think many schools often lack promoting these services, and are only offered to students that are vocally struggling. I think this should be broadened and available to any student who feels like they need them.

I think accommodations can be as simple as being understanding can go a long way. This can be seen as extending due dates, allowing open seating, and allowing students to have fidgets/allow them to fidget. Personally, I often struggle sitting in one place for a long time and I need a fidget (can be as simple as drawing on paper) in order to actually listen and focus. I think having a discussion with individual students and seeing what they feel like they need would be the most effective.

I have seen how an IEP benefits a family member's education. He was able to learn in the classroom and how to integrate into society. As a future educator, I believe my job is to help students succeed, regardless of their needs. I will make it my goal to understand and adapt to their needs. To check for the reliability of the IEP I would look toward the improvement of students. Are they excelling? Are these students learning? Are they engaged? I would ask myself these questions to evaluate the IEPs effectiveness.
