Free will is closely linked to the concepts of responsibility, praise, guilt, sin, and other judgements which apply only to actions that are freely chosen.

Many argue that if we were so analytical to the point that we could predict every factor contributing to change, we could define the exact outcome of every situation. In this aspect, the decisions of a human being. This would be true if there were a finite amount of factors, however, because the factors are infinite, there is no way to truly define the future. 'Infinite' is not just a very very large number. Infinite is INFINITE. I would say however, that external factors do define what we decide. But if this is true, is free will rendered obsolete?

Our choices are the results of our experiences and our instincts; we don't choose what to do. Every decision we make will be because of things that happened to us, and how things affected us. Any decision we make will be entirely controlled by these factors, so even though we think we are choosing, really we are just doing what we have to do.

We can only choose the option that best suits our needs, or at least that we believe will fulfill is the most. Even when we are trying to do things for other people, we are mostly benefiting ourselves, because helping them is what we want to do the most, so it will fulfill us the most. Although people make choices that are purposefully self-destructive, they still do them for some sort of benefit; maybe they enjoy being sad, or enjoy having pity and something to complain about.
