I asked the professors who teach the meaning of life to tell
me what is happiness.
And I went to famous executives who boss the work of
thousands of men.
They all shook their heads and gave me a smile as though
I was trying to fool with them
And then one Sunday afternoon I wandered out along
the Desplaines river
And I saw a crowd of Hungarians under the trees with
their women and children and a keg of beer and an
accordion.
By Carl Sandburg

The theme of this poem you can not be taught to feel happiness. I chose this poem because it shows how you don't have to have everything to be happy, you don't have to have money. I was drawn to this poem because it is talking about him asking about happiness to completely different people, each not having a complete answer. This poem fits in because he is trying to find an answer to happiness. It differs because it seems different to go to different people to find an answer.

I think this picture is a good example of happiness because of the colors used. The bright colors and the smiling indicates happiness. It connects to the poem because the use of nature in the poem and in the picture. This painting is called Happiness in Colors by Piet Pedersen.

A blue or red birds fly
Through a cloud dappled sky
The morning sun with support of breeze, views shimmering pearl
In the liquid tresses of the lake in a whirl.

The grass moist with the feelings of dew dropp shining
The wind combs the tree's long tangled hair
Using the agitated pond as a mirror
During your morning walk a warm smile, hand shake, greeting or laughter's ring.

The very experience of happiness heals you and makes you happier
Then the smile and dimple face of your wife as she serves a warm cup of tea with smiling cheer
Acknowledge, appreciate and be grateful for million bits of blessing
To God, society, nature and culture.

Acknowledging the gold particles around you and forgiving the errors and distortion
Is a sure therapy which is healing through happiness to mind's happier season
It is the only path of healing which is easy and happy all the way to the end
Just now kiss your wife, caress a flower remove a thorn on the way and warmly embrace a friend!

As an exception when very sad and hurt, ‘cry your heart out'
Visualizing a God, mother even an abstract figure weep aloud
Unashamed, this catharsis will moisten your hardened heart and mind with tears
Surprisingly very soon you will come in touch with the core of health and happiness inside-out.
By TD. Kumar

The theme of this poem is mother nature portrays happiness. This piece is included because it shows happiness in nature by describing it in detail causing imagery. I like to imagine while reading the poem.

I think this painting is connected to this poem because it has nature involved with the bright colors. This could also have some sadness in this because everywhere around the bird is colorful but the bird is colorless indicating sadness. This painting is called Blue Jay Monotypes by Anne Chu.
