HOOK: Nearing the end of 2020, 71% of workers who believed their job responsibilities could for the most part be completed at home were actually working from home, while 54% would

want to continue working from home after the coronavirus pandemic ends (Parker et al.). These numbers were unthinkable before the coronavirus outbreak where only about one in five of these same workers were working from home most of the time (Parker et al.). BACKGROUND INFO: Working from home, also known as telework or remote work, involves a work arrangement where the employee is not expected to work at a centralized location such as an office building. Remote work opportunities used to be only given to senior employees because of the potential mistrust that other, more junior employees, would not be able to complete their tasks and diminish performance. However, at the beginning of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic led to widespread stay-at-home government orders that changed that tradition entirely. In order to keep their businesses running, many companies had to adjust to remote work quickly and universally. Many white-collar workers, those who typically work in an office environment and don’t perform manual labor, adjusted to these calls to work from home and ultimately enjoyed freedoms not allowed to them in the past. Now with vaccination rates increasing and nearing what hopefully feels like the end of the coronavirus pandemic, employees and employers are faced with the potential of universal remote work ending. THESIS: Work from home has impacted white-collar workers by providing comfort, increased productivity, flexibility, and allowed them to save money; however, companies have a continued reluctance to keep a remote work model after the pandemic.

Hook: How important is it to have your future children or children that you have now, speak a foreign language? There are many benefits to speaking a foreign language, but there are also some implications.
Background: Only 25% of elementary schools in the US offer a foreign language. There are many benefits to learning a foreign language in elementary. It used to be known that only private schools had foreign language as part of their curriculum. A few benefits that could possibly encourage more elementary schools to include a foreign language as part of their curriculum would be that it boosts academic achievement and research shows that its boosts children in many areas of life. Although some experts say incorporating such a program in Kindergarten may be ineffective, due to some children never fully perfecting one language. There are many advantages and disadvantages to foreign language curriculum like, budget and staffing Dual Immersion teachers, ineffectively mastering 2 languages, gives children a great head start, and benefits basic life skills.
Thesis: So the question is how early is too early and do the pros outweigh the cons?

Surrogacy
Hook: “There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out their way to make life beautiful for others”- Mandy Hale. What is a surrogate and why do people use surrogacy?
Background: Surrogacy is a method of assisted reproduction where intended parents work with a gestational surrogate. A surrogate mother will carry and care for their baby (ies) until birth, typically via artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization. Intended parents use surrogacy to start their families when they can’t do so on their own. There’s two types of surrogacy, traditional and gestational. Traditional surrogate, the biological mom of her child meaning she has parental rights and the power to change her mind and keep the baby. Gestational carrier, carries a pregnancy for an individual or couple using an egg that is not the carriers and gives birth to a baby for a person who is not able to have children.
Thesis: . Being a surrogate can be a great experience for some women considering they have the amazing gift to make a family happy, create relationships, rewarding gift, compensate, legally protected.
