         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the module on women, we used the following link to summarise our work: <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nFnn5uewkfWCbeuRhSosm_Au_kfEmb7rgueniC2YAWw/edit">https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nFnn5uewkfWCbeuRhSosm_Au_kfEmb7rgueniC2YAWw/edit</a><br>Summarise the key elements of the challenge of women to the RCT:</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Origin:</strong> </div><ul><li>In the early modern period, women contributed significantly to the counter-reformation efforts of the church, particularly in the field of education and the development of pious associations. </li><li>In the period following the industrial revolution, religious women became the compassionate face of the church and participated in social welfare activities of the church, and the educational outreach to the poor</li><li>In Australia during the mid 19th century, women in remote bush areas taught the catechism to their children, prepared them for sacraments and cared for the local church. </li><li>By the early twentieth century, the education of girls was fostered both by the bishops and religious sisters as women were seen as the primary educators in the family</li><li>By the 1930’s there were a number of catholic female doctors, catholic nurses and many women who had entered the public teaching service. </li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Aspects:</strong></div><div>Social structure: women in the roman catholic tradition are placed below men in the hierarchical system, they helped with the development of education and provided teaching services, women also played a large role as nurses in the healthcare system.</div><div>Texts: In the bible, women do not play a major role, this is exemplified through Jesus’ disciples being depicted as only men.</div><div>Gospel of Luke displays mary as a model of faith, luke also extends this in  Luke 8:13, where the women who accompanied Jesus are given names, background details. Women are there at the death of Jesus and are the first to witness the resurrection of Jesus. Luke’s texts recognises women as having an important role in the roman catholic tradition </div><div>Sacred stories: Mary Mackillop- Starting a school in Penola, Starting a boy’s orphanage- Kincumber</div><div>Rituals: Conducting a service at church, giving out Holy Communion </div><div>Symbols: Church, cross, women priests/nun’s uniform</div><div>Religious Experience: Women working with others in the social hierarchy. E.G starting a school or becoming leaders of a school</div><div>SPAT:  Space:Altar  Place:Church  Artifact:  Time:</div><div>Beliefs: That only men can be within the social hierarchy and in the RCT</div><div>Spiritual Experience:  Women working together to gain power.</div><div><br></div><div>Challenges:</div><ul><li>Women can’t be priests or bishops</li><li>In 1992, the anglican church dedicated to ordain women </li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Stances: </strong></div><ul><li>Women: </li></ul><div>→ Women are looked upon equal citizens</div><div>→ Some argue that  it is a priest’ job to serve God, it’s not about gender</div><div>→ Both men and women  are created in god’s image and should therefore both be allowed to represent Christ as priests. </div><div><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
