In the rural area it was poorly funded, if not shut down many of them lacked running water, electricity, busing, and hot lunches. Many couldn’t afford basic school supplies such as textbooks or even graduation attire. The parents were packinghouse workers and they lived in a lean made of rusty tin and burlap. The oldest were usually left to care for the youngest. Talking about the stock market crash and how lives were destroyed during this time. Children weren’t being made, banks were losing money, and the economy was a ticking time bomb. The rate was definitely decreasing during this time because not many families could afford kids. Money was in short supply during the depression so people wanted to save as much as possible and not use it on another child. Kids had to work to help out their family/parents at home. While they only made a few cents, they would send half of it back to their parents at home. I chose this cartoon because you can see the kids on there way to the factory.
