Teaching to identify letters and the sounds they make.
Introducing a new letter of the alphabet each week. Teacher names the letter, makes the sound(s), writes the letter on the whiteboard, and asks students to copy saying the sound, using verbal direction when needed to indicate the formation of the mouth for that sound. Students practice identifying the letter, making the sound, and writing it every day, learning to identify the name and sound of the letter.
