         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Time and day</strong> Mon 16:00 - 17:30<br><br></div><div><strong>Session Leader Names</strong> Paul Glaister CBE<br><br></div><div><strong>Session Title</strong>&nbsp; Proof in A level Mathematics<br><br></div><div><strong>Brief Description</strong> A level Mathematics (in England) requires students to demonstrate a wide range of overarching knowledge and skills, and that these must be applied, along with associated mathematical thinking and understanding, across the whole of the detailed Subject Content, including the Overarching Theme OT1: Mathematical argument, language and proof.<br><br></div><div>As well as learning about different techniques of proof, the main purpose of OT1 is to encourage students to develop logical thought, and to be able to provide clear mathematical arguments in support of a result, or as part of mathematical problem solving, across the whole of the detailed Subject Content.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>Take away…</strong>GCSE Mathematics in England requires students to be able to: 'argue mathematically to show algebraic expressions are equivalent, and use algebra to support and construct arguments and proofs' which is built upon in A Level Mathematics.<br><br></div><div>In this session participants will meet a range of examples involving different types of proof and mathematical argument, with the aim of supporting students taking their first steps into this vital overarching theme in A Level Mathematics, through developing a resilience when approaching proof in mathematics.<br><br></div><div>As well as hopefully enjoying learning more about this topic, the aim is to enable participants to feel more confident in their teaching of proof within A Level Mathematics, and to takeaway a range of problems which can be used with students.<br><br></div><div><strong>Nature of activity</strong> Workshop<br><br></div><div><strong>Key Stages </strong>&nbsp;KS5<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
