I have been apart of a dance school for over 10 years. Each summer I take some time off from dancing and my body can always tell. When I attend a class, I sweat more than when I go to a gym and do an individual workout. Dancing is the amazing way to workout because it provides cardio, flexibility training, mental strength, and a variety of workout types. I believe that everyone should tryout a dance class!

It not only burns calories. Dance increases balance and flexibility. This will increase range of motion in old age. The National Osteoporosis Foundation says that dance strengthens your skeleton. They did a study comparing dancers and non dancers. The findings state that dancing may preserve gross motor skills. When dancing, you move all of the smaller muscles that do not usually get attention when doing weight lifting or running. This increases the strength and flexibility in places like your back, thighs and hips.

You DO NOT have to be a trained dancer. There are teacher led videos and beginner classes that anyone can follow along to. You can even just dance around for fun. You can put on your favorite, high energy, song and dance around your comfortable space. This gives you at least some movement.
