The Arabic word ‘Ibadah is derived from the same root as the word ‘Abd, which means servant and slave. Thus, ‘Ibadah means to perform the duties of a servant as does a slave or bondsman. A person is a slave of somebody only if he lives his whole life rendering service and obedience to him and behaves as one should behave to his master. But a person who is supposedly a servant and is being paid for his work but who does not render his master service and obedience as a slave ought, is guilty of disloyalty and rebellion.

Benefits of ibadah :

Spiritual Connection: Ibadah helps strengthen the spiritual bond between the individual and Allah. It provides a sense of closeness and connection, fostering a deep and meaningful relationship with the divine.

Guidance and Direction: Engaging in regular ibadah, such as praying, reading the Quran, and seeking knowledge, provides guidance and direction in one's life. It helps individuals align their actions with Islamic teachings, leading to a more righteous and purposeful life.

Inner Peace and Tranquility: Ibadah offers a source of inner peace and tranquility. Through prayer and reflection, individuals find solace and a sense of calmness, even in the face of life's challenges.

"Hikmah" in Arabic translates to wisdom. Engaging in ibadah (worship) is seen as a source of wisdom in Islam for various reasons, and these reasons are derived from Islamic teachings and sources.

Guidance from the Quran: The Quran, considered the holy book in Islam, is a source of divine wisdom. Engaging in ibadah, particularly the recitation and reflection upon the Quran, provides profound insights and guidance for leading a righteous and meaningful life.

Connection with the Divine: Ibadah serves as a means of connecting with Allah. Through prayers, supplications, and acts of worship, believers seek guidance, clarity, and wisdom directly from the source of all knowledge and wisdom.

Prophetic Tradition (Sunnah): The life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) offer a wealth of wisdom.
week 3 usrah (Preparation for Salah with Khusyuk)

"Khushu" or "khusyuk" is an Arabic term that refers to a state of humility, attentiveness, and tranquility during the performance of salah (prayer) in Islam. Achieving khushu in salah requires mental and spiritual preparation. Here are some tips for preparing for salah with khushu:

Purification (Wudu or Ghusl): Begin by performing the necessary purification rituals. Ensure that you have made wudu (ablution) or ghusl (ritual bath) according to Islamic guidelines, as physical cleanliness is a prerequisite for the acceptance of prayers.

Choose a Quiet and Clean Space: Select a clean and quiet place for prayer, free from distractions. A dedicated prayer area in your home can help create a conducive environment for khushu.

Dress Modestly: Wear clean and modest clothing when preparing for salah. Modesty in dress contributes to a sense of reverence and concentration during the prayer.

Start Early: Try not to delay the prayer beyond its prescribed time. Starting your salah early within the prayer window allows for a more relaxed and focused approach.

Empty Your Mind: Before starting the prayer, take a moment to clear your mind of worldly distractions. Try to let go of worries and concerns, allowing your thoughts to center on the act of worship.

Recite Quranic Verses or Dhikr: Engage in the recitation of Quranic verses or dhikr (remembrance of Allah) before starting the prayer. This helps in setting a spiritual tone and can enhance your connection with Allah.

Understand the Meaning of What You Recite: Familiarize yourself with the meanings of the verses you recite in your prayer. Knowing the meanings can deepen your understanding and concentration during the prayer.

VIRTUES IN ZAKAT

Zakat (زكّى) has a meaning of purification, and those who purify themselves will succeed in the hereafter (قد أفلح من تزكى).

i) Purify wealth: A portion of our earnings belongs to others; hence, we must give it to those who deserve it.

ii) Purify the heart: Reflected in Surah Qasas, where a person, upon becoming wealthy, refused to purify their heart, and divine consequences followed.

Wealth is sensitive; comparing prices at cafes doesn't make us sensitive. Accumulating wealth can lead to arrogance, and thus, Allah urges purification from these behaviors (خذ من أموالهم صدقة).

The second meaning of زكّى is increasing. Hadith emphasizes that giving Zakat increases wealth.

VIRTUES FOUND

i) Seek forgiveness: Al-Ahzab 33:35 encourages seeking forgiveness through Zakat (متصدقين والمتصدقات).

ii) Tazkiyatul nafs: Purify the soul.

iii) Attain the highest level of goodness (bir): Surah Insan 3 mentions the righteous will drink from a cup of camphor.

iv) Erase sins and mistakes: Sins affect our ability to focus in prayer (بقرة 271).

v) Avoid stinginess: Zakat helps prevent avarice.

vi) Multiply rewards: Giving Zakat in Ramadan, when rewards are multiplied, brings blessings (لن تنالوا البر).

"Bir" signifies virtue and the highest level of goodness
