This cartoon below represents the human experience of disappointment through use of monochromatic colour, facial expressions and symbolism. Monochromatic colour is used to show the dullness and mediocrity of this city and its citizens portrayed in the image that conveys a sense of loneliness and represent the lack of colour and excitement in a city. Gloomy facial expressions illustrate two people who are depressed, reflecting their inner thoughts and emotions which are written above their heads in the cartoon that cause the audience to sympathise for the characters. Finally, the city backdrop is used symbolically to demonstrate the loneliness and isolation associated with living in a big city, demonstrating a sense of disappointment in the image.
The viewers are provided a vector line that instantly draws eyes upon the subjects of this dejected cartoon. Immediately we can assess the human like figures and notice their unenthusiastic posture promoting this idea of disappointment. Above the prioritised subjects is text stating “All I want for Christmas is Christmas”. The illustrator actively uses a particular messy font to enhance this idea of disappointment highlighting further the dissatisfaction with these people unable to experience a true Christmas. The whole cartoon is enveloped with a monochromatic feel being absent in any colour enhanced with the saddened facial expressions expressed on the people. This presents an emotional response that potentially may prick the viewer as it targets a very occurring feeling in the real world, discussing the idea of emptiness and feeling like a disappointment. The large city environment surrounding the people are symbolic to the idea that although these people are moving through hardships missing out on Christmas, the world still moves around them carelessly
