Answers to question regarding acceptance and short listing criteria

Being the fifth year since inception of NPTEL Local Chapters, we have a host of activities that we have planned for Local Chapters. The first activity in this list was the workshop on Transition to Online Facilitation. We understand that there are many confusions regarding this workshop in all of your mind, so here is a detailed clarification on the workshop and questions that you are having.

1. Many people from my LC had registered for the workshop, but we did not get any confirmation/rejection message yet.

We had a total of 2364 applications out of which we have shortlisted 200. The confirmation emails have been sent, but we have received acceptance from 90+ participants till now. We have not started sending the rejection messages but you can expect to receive them starting from Monday when we will formally close enrollment.

2. What is the criteria for shortlisting? Nothing has been specified regarding this.

The major criteria that we looked at was to ensure that there were participants from different colleges. So we have not considered more than 2 participants from an LC. Also, if the learner has already participated in the FDPs conducted via IITBombayX then we have not considered that application as the skill sets/competences that are expected at the end of the workshop is not different. The next criteria that was used for short listing candidates is if the same person has been nominated from the LC by other participants. Finally we have looked into the SoP given by the participant and considered an equitable distribution of experienced and novice users of technology tools.

3. The workshop was scheduled start at 6 PM on 6th May. But there was no link given regarding the session in the confirmation email.

The workshop is an Online Course and this is hosted in MOODLE Platform. The MOODLE platform link has been sent to each of you. If you have not received that email, kindly contact Dr. Jayakrishnan (jkm@nptel.iitm.ac.in)

4. I have not received a confirmation yet. And I am assuming that my application has not been shortlisted. I do not want certificate, but can I get access to the workshop course? This will help me learn on my own.

All the contents of the workshop is provided weekly in this Padlet. You can access the content from the Padlet and learn.

5. Will there be a similar workshop in the future?

This is our pilot attempt to try and build a sustainable Professional Learning Community. Based on the outcome of this effort, we are planning to offer more such workshops in the future. Please keep a lookout for the announcement regarding the same from our end.

Week 3 of the workshop focused on community building through Slack and Jit.si. Participants were divided into 10 groups and in each group we had appointed moderators/facilitators. Throughout the week we focused on onboarding the group members to Slack. There was a "Session on Slack" by using the Slack workspace itself.

An analogy used for explaining how Slack works is given below:
Institution <--> Slack Workspace (neof.slack.com)
Rooms <--> Channels
Auditorium/Public Gathering Room <--> Public Channels (#training , #general , #random )
Classrooms/Private Rooms <--> Private Channels (group-specific-channels)
Structured/Systematic Communication <--> Use of threads (by replying to posts)
Unstructured/Chaotic communication <--> Use of individual posts alone

You can also refer to the official Slack tutorial
