Brady sent me on numerous assignments to photograph compelling images for our paintings in his studio ,but on the day of April ,12 1861 I was sent on an assignment to capture the greatest war of our era, the civil war, this meant great significance to my career although I would not take credit i would still get paid. The risks were high on the battlefield I would have to document everything.

I remember the most vivid memory from the war on September 17 I follow union soldiers that went to Sharpsburg Maryland by the Antietam Creek. George B. McClellan had commanded his army intercept Robert E.Lee's plan to invade Maryland.Lee was trying to get weapons from Maryland,McClellan's army charges after Lee's army, within a matter of minutes bodies were on the ground of both union and confederate the fight stayed strong the men were belligerent I captured more images of battle the bodies lay in front of my view. the union soldiers overpowered the confederate and they decided to renounce

it has been a year already and the conditions have been arduous i have seen many wounded union soldiers return from battle bloody, their eyes full of pain as they were taken to the infirmary. as a photographer this was hard to watch i was not use to capturing images of the dead and the wounded my expertise in my field were solely based on producing images of people and city streets the camera's were large and bulky they were difficult to manage, when I took the camera out to the battle, pictures would take much time to produce
