-          Getting to see new points of view that you never thought of (and are equally valid)
-          Building on a new idea, even if you disagree with it, at the beginning.
-          Bringing a greater understanding of the topic being discussed
-          Being structured: discussion is an ordered one (someone is the moderator) 
-          Whoever puts forward a statement, would have evidence (or some reasoning) behind to back it up. Eg. We don’t want people repeating what they saw in social media, without checking the sources (fake news)
