He freed everyone else and they seized control of the ship. The slaves were trying to get to Africa, but were unsuccessful. On August 26, 1839,  a U.S. Navy ship saw the ship off of the Eastern Coast of Long Island. He sent a U.S. Navy Ship to pick up the Africans because he thought the court would say the Africans should be tried in Cuba.
