Once again, I am so thankful that you were able to make the trip to Waseca Intermediate School to help our students learn all about Simple Machines. The "hands on" stations were so helpful in introducing each of the Simple Machines and then engaging them in understanding how each worked. Day 2's stations helped challenge students with the task of figuring out how to "work smarter and not harder" and taught them to measure in Newtons using a spring scale. With the MCA tests fast approaching, this was a fantastic unit to help prepare our students for this science standard. I love your enthusiasm, creativity, and passion for science. Thank you for being our Super Sensational Science Sleuths! Deb Vetter
WIS Media Director

Some of the things we learned were if the load isn't balanced, you have to move the heavier load closer to the fulcrum (or the balance point).

Thank you , Sam and Emilie, for coming to Waseca Intermediate School (WIS).
We liked the stations especially the pounding one. It was really hard to balance the stuffed animals as well. We learned that when you measure force, you measure it in Newtons. We also learned that there are six different kinds of simple machines. Thank you, Sam and Emilie, for your visit. We learned a lot about Simple Machines.
Pablo Alverez and Skyler U.
WIS Students

Thank you, Sam and Emilie, for teaching us about simple machines. We learned that with a double pulley you can go backward and forward and on a single pulley you can only go forward. Our group thought it was easier to pull the cart with the wheel because with the wheels it reduces the friction. Our group never knew that you can measure in Newtons.
By: Aiden Shoemsker, Eddi Bethke and Colten Rudey
WIS Students

Thank you ,Sam and Emilie, for coming to Waseca Intermediate School and teaching us about simple machines. It was exciting to learn about the lever and fulcrum and how the balance works on it. We would also like to thank you for greatly helping us with our MCA tests that we will be taking shortly. Thanks again for coming to our school and teaching us.
Sincerely, Henri Wobschall and Elias Crosby
WIS Students

Thank you, Sam and Emilie, for teaching us about simple machines. We learned that Newtons are measured with a spring scale. In using pulleys, we found they can lift heavy things. A wedge can hold the door open. This is going to help us for the MCA test. Thank you for coming to our school.
Addison Kelm and Owen Wilder
WIS Students

Thank you, Sam and Emilie, for coming to Waseca Intermediate School and teaching us about simple machines. We enjoyed your visit very much. We learned a lot of things while you were here. One thing we learned was that if you wrap an inclined plane around a post it becomes a screw. Another thing that we learned was that on a lever if you move something toward the fulcrum it loses weight. The other thing we learned was when using an inclined plane, if you make the plane longer you will have a longer distance to pull the force, but it will be easier to pull. Thanks again!
Leah Scheffert and Elyssa Hess
WIS Students
