All forms of oppression were used to create a "Free" Country

Evidence: Clint Thomas said," So when you remember Jefferson's genius, dont forget the slaves who built the bookshelves in his library

Reasoning: This quote really stood out to me because black people were seen as less and weren't reconginized for the things they did. The work they put in, the blood, the sweat, and tears shaped buildings, shaped railroads, shaped clothes just for there shape to not be recongnized. They stepped on the backs of others to climb to greater heights leaving African Americans to stay in the dark as a shadow of others accomplishments.

Claim: Clint Smith's "Why We Shouldn't Forget that US Presidents Owned Slaves" and Nikole Hannah Jones' "Our Country Wouldn't Exist Without Black People" proved that there has been an erasure of certain "uncomfortable" elements in American history due to white supremacy and the need to uphold American exceptionalism.

Evidence: Thomas Jefferson and the backlash that Nikole Hannah Jones received after the 1619 project is perfect examples.

Reasoning: As quoted by Smith, Jefferson is the "intellectual who came up with the outline for the Declaration of Independence" however he is also a slave owner who had children with a female slave that was at least half his age. People never seem to learn this within any American history class. The backlash that Nikole Hannah Jones received also shows how much America wants to keep these topics covered. "Slavery was a long time ago, get over it." is a phrase that she often hears, but what people fail to acknowledge is that slavery has had a lasting effect on African Americans for the past couple of centuries. The incessant need that (usually) white people have to dismiss black people bringing up the racial inequality shows that instant action of trying to cover it up. While you may acknowledge that slavery was a terrible thing that has a lasting effect on African Americans, you can easily ignore it. There must be actions taken to dismantle the system.

Kaleb Tsegaye C. We are taught that our Founding Fathers are the epitome of greatness, when in reality, nothing could be more false. They fought to oppress persons of color, and treat them as inanimate objects rather than actual human beings, and the truth of this has been covered up and left untaught for many years.

Clint Smith spoke about how many soldiers of color were sent right back to the plantation after the Revolutionary War, and how some African-American soldiers fought for the British, because at least they were honest in their intentions. He spoke about how for years on end we have been not been taught about the true history and basis America was founded on. We only hear one side of the story so we must question, who is the author?

R. Others should know about this because if we are not taught the true history of America, how can we confidently progress forward as a nation? We have so many people who have no clue about the origins of this country, because it simply wasn't taught. It must be taught so we can move forward as a united country, rather than a divided people with prejudice towards one another. If we aren't taught our history, we are doomed to repeat it in some way, shape, or form.

That while the fundamentals of this country were being created, the creators were partaking in actions that contradicted the words that they wrote by taking the humanity of the Black people that were brought here against their will. Even after having black people fight in our wars, those that survived were then sent back to be enslaved to those in power.

Claim:The most significant learning today was seeing that our found fathers were not good people.
Evidence: An example would be Nikkole Hannah stating how the founding fathers written the constitution for only it to be applied to certain people and not African Americans.
Reasoning: this shows how people are only shown the good things from the past and not shown the unjust of the ¨good people¨

Claim: The most significant learning to me was that our founding father did there best to make the world safe and they left some bad things out that people were involved with.
Evidence: Nikole Hannah was talking about these laws that were made for the world but he wasn't saying that it was for the African Americans.
Reasoning: This shows that the people out there in this world cant always be nice and they don't really know about this and they could be racist and talk about there skin color. No one in this world should be disrespectful to another and someone that isn't there skin color.

claim: the most significant learning more about African america culture.
Evidence: Nikole Hannah about the laws but were'n for African Americans.
reasoning; i think that people look at us as we are and judge that, and much more if you are someone of color, they are standards for them and it does not seem to me that they only judge us by skin color.

Claim: In schools they don´t teach about the bad the founding fathers did.

Evidence: Clint Smith talked about how schools only teach one side of the story. They make them seem like good people yet they owned slaves and showed hatred towards people of color.

Reasoning: People often neglect to talk about the negative parts of history. Slavery is often looked upon as a thing of the past. And they se excuses that slavery doesn´t happen today. This shows that people need to be taught more in-depth and need to be properly educated on history.
