Formative assessments are ways for a teacher to assess their students and see what they already know and what they need to improve on. One big reason to do formative assessments is so that you do not teach what the students already know. There are a number of ways to do this and a variety of strategies.

Each student creates a visual for each page in the story.
Create something
Have the students build or create something that shows that they comprehend whatever the lesson or content was.
Running records
Assess the students reading. Keep track of how they read and what mistakes they make. Look at how each student progresses throughout the year.

Why will I use them?

I will use these formative assessments because it gives the students a lot of freedom on what to do and how they do it. This allows students to be creative and gives them a chance to do something that they might really enjoy doing. The running records is important so that i can make sure the students are improving throughout the year.

How is this similar or different from what I have learned in other classes?

This is pretty similar from what I have learned in other classes. One way that it is different is that I was not given a lot of different strategies for the formative assessments. Most classes focus on getting results to make sure that the students are understanding what is being taught. The biggest difference is that I know more about pre assessment and how important it can be for differentiation.
