The article had a debate on how we should try children as adults. One side discussed that adult crimes are equal to adult punishment. The other side was describing how children cannot understand their consequences. They want to give kids an adult punishment and put them in jail without giving them a chance to learn from their mistakes.
Quote:
"Laws that favor trying and sentencing juveniles as adults, argue that strong juvenile justice laws are needed because previous laws were just too lenient."

Teens nowadays feel the need to fit in. And sometimes they don't understand the laws what are in place. when they get older, they realize that its wrong to commit a crime.
"Studies of criminal activity by age consistently find that rates of offending begin to rise in preadolescence or early adolescence, reach a peak in late adolescence, and fall through young adulthood."
This quote summarizes all of the facts stated in pdf.66-106, page 4. It show that teens commit more offenses in their late teen years (16-18) and less offenses when they are younger.

Legislators debate legislation that allows for adult charges for juvenile offenders.
This correlates to the article because the movie focuses on juveniles who committed crimes and are being tried as adults, where as the article is debating whether or not that should be allowed.

The correlation between Lord of the Flies, the PDF on development and the news article is the idea of age. The book shows how kids develop when they are put in an adult situation - it showcases the age of responsibility and lost meaning of age due to circumstance.
The PDF practically just gives statistics and studies on crime reports with adolescence. We connect that to the article, because that article addresses the question of whether age or not age should be considered when determining punishment. If a child commits an adult crime, are they tried as an adult or for their age?
The article shows a real life situation where children were getting tried as adults.
