I collaborated with my group by giving ideias of what to talk about and by reasearching and writing about New Zealand’s economy and religion, two very importante things to know about a country you want to study. Also, I help to divide the group’s activities and to think how we would presentate and give other suggestions. So yes, I assigned tasks once the group decided what we would talk about, and we all did our part. The presentation went very nice and I liked the result. If I could do something different it would be to learn how to deal with the little stereo we used for the presentation, becausa I had no ideia how to turn that on and to regulate it. Besides that, I believe everything went well and the the class learning some things about New Zealand.

One of the things that amused me the most about Australia that was presented by the group was its nature, for example its barrier reef, the biggest on Earth which is located at the coast of Queensland, and also the different animals that can kill so easily. One of theses animals – which I though was inofencisive – is the kangaroos, but there’s also koalas, sea lions, quokkas, honey bees and box jellyfishes. Another thing I really enjoyed learning was the there’s na aussie way of speaking, that is shortening almost every word or expression, it reminded me of people from Minas Gerais, Brasil.

First of all I have to say that I really liked the use of Gloria Maria’s pictures and vídeos on Jamaica’s seminar, it really made me laugh. One thing that cought my attention was when the group talked about jamaican runners, and I though about Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive. Now talking more specific about the country, I though very interesting the grafic that showed how Jamaica’s GDP increased so fast over the last tem years, compared with before. Also, of course, I loved listening to Bob Marley’s song while the group presented, and to learn a little about the rastafári religion, and also its sacred relation with marijuana.

New Zealand was the country that my group presented about, I enjoyed searching about it specially because of its natural beauties and consolidated economy in the international system. To get to know about the maori people was also very interesting, since I had no information about theses people. My group worked well in setting our presentation and reasearch, we all helped and everyone had something specific to do, and also to analyze the others’ parts and give our opinions about it.

What impressess me the most about Singapore is the fact that it’s a country just from the size of a city and that it becamed a first world country so quickly and very developed economically. Since Singapore has no natural resources nor agricultural places to explore, it has focused on its free Market economy ando n divesification of economy to sustain itself.

It’s always nice to study South Africa and also very necessary to study the apartheid and how it was institucionalized and then destroyed. One thing that impressed me, as a person that likes a lot learning and speaking different languages, was to see that South Africa’s national anthem is compossed by five different languages, making it very rich culturally.

Well, the countries presented differ a lot from Brazil: in their governments, their economies (less or more developed, rich and poor countries), in their fauna and flora, in their nature in general, although there’s some similarities between Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, and maybe South Africa with Brazil, since they’re tropical countries. Scotland and Singapore are the richest countries presented, while Jamaica and South Africa are the poorest. What they all look a like (excep Brazil, of course)? They’re all native speakers of english language, and contribute to the diferences and particularities that english has.

We could see that those countries that were colonized by Great Britain have very much in common and still, a lot of differences that were preservated by the natives culture before colonizers got there for the first time. I think that the seminars worked well, it was nice having the classmates presenting about the countries and bringing cool things like music, objects and curiosities.

On Scotland’s seminar we learned some more about its feudal Society and its history on the middle age, its fight for independency and its union with other crowns to compose the United Kingdom. I confess that I thought Scotland’s history a little boring, and I actually like to know more about other countries in other continents.
