I chose marine biology for my topic. I will talk about how coral reef ecosystems work and how important they are for the ocean, as well as how other marine animals live and benefit the ocean and other organisms. I will also focus on the health of our oceans and talk about topics like pollution, and how we can help save the ocean. I like this topic because I think the importance of our oceans is overlooked and we should talk about it more. Many organisms in the ocean are fascinating and I would like to learn more about them, which is also the reason why i picked this topic.

OceanHero is a web browser extension that can be used on all devices. It works like your normal browser (ex. google) but every time you search something up or simply visit a website you earn points that are called shells. Once you collect 100 shells in total, you have helped OceanHero recover one ocean-bound plastic bottle. There are also levels that you can get by collecting more and more shells everyday. The levels do not help the ocean, its just a story about going from the land to the sea. This can help you feel more motivated to collect shells and continue the story.

There are not many ads either. Some ads do show on your search box (like on any other browser),but they are there to make this possible. Clicking on the ads also helps OceanHero. OceanHero (with the help of its users) already recovered 43 193 850 plastic bottles and the number is still rising.

I started using this app thanks to my friend who introduced it to me. I did not have any issues with it, and I think this is such a great idea and a nice way to help ocean pollution. You can see details on their website; https://oceanhero.today/cs, or you can find their app in the apple store/google play app in your device.

If you would like using it you can collect shells with your friends by sharing your accounts. (my acc: https://oceanhero.today/j/ABy0bep1)

I think this app should get more recognition and I rate it 10/10!

Importance of the coral reef ecosystems

Coral reefs are some of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. Coral reefs support more species than any other marine environment, which makes it so important for the ocean. It has benefits for medicine too. Many drugs are now being developed from coral reef animals and plants as possible cures for cancer, bacterial infections, viruses, and other diseases. Beyond the science, coral reefs are economic powerhouses, supporting fisheries, tourism, and jobs. They protect coastlines by reducing the impact of waves and storms. When damaged or destroyed, the loss of this defense puts coastal communities at risk from severe weather and erosion.

Despite their economic and recreational value, coral reefs are severely threatened by pollution, disease, and habitat destruction. Once coral reefs are damaged, they are less able to support the many creatures that inhabit them and the communities near them. We should raise awarness about this and start protecting coral reefs like they protect our coastlines and many oceanic species.
